Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) DTT trans not shifting - HELP!

OK, my '97 12V/auto/4x4/3. 73 needed the transmission rebuilt back in February. I got "the works" from DTT, valve body, master update kit, everything short of a whole transmission, without the TC (already had aftermarket in it). Now, when the transmission gets warm it doesn't want to upshift, first you can't get above 40 mph or so before the rpms get too high(is this the 2-3 or the 3-OD shift?). Then, as the transmission gets warmer, you lose the next lowest gear. The fluid level is fine and my gauge reads perfectly normal. Please note, the transmission is NOT slipping, it just does not want to upshift. As you hit about 40 mph and the rpms approach 2500, I can let off the gas, let the rpms drop, and feel the upshift. Then I can get back on the gas and go. This, too, goes away as the transmission gets warmer, then you lose the upshift to the previous gear too. It works its way down as the transmission gets warmer. The TC still locks up exactly as before.

I'm thinking valve body. Any ideas? To recap:

1. transmission does NOT slip.

2. Fluid level and TC operation OK.

3. Loss of 40 mph upshift as transmission warms up, then loss of 20? 30? mph upshift as it warms up more.

4. Can let off gas and get it to upshift for a short time, then even that doesn't work.

5. Park it, cool it down, and it will behave normally until it warms up again.

Calling Bill is the best idea, however if your TPS wires are not making good contact at the TPS this symptom will be present. A quick look can't hurt. Still give Bill a call. Great guy, and a savy crew to back him up. Good Luck

OK, checked the TPS. The plug was still good, I took it off to see if maybe water was in it and it was clean and still had dielectric grease in it.

A note about calling Bill: I know about DTT's superior customer service, but this popped up late last night and my wife needs the truck to go to work early this morning. There are very few people who come to work at 4 am. I know my sig shows four vehicles but my wife is 8 months pregnant and the Ram is the only one she can get up into. Everything else is either broken (T-Bird), not completely assembled (Scout) or has 36" tires (Jeep). I will call Bill but in the meantime I wanted to try and get a few things looked at before she had to take it to work with the flashers on because it won't go over 20 mph.

John, I PMd you back. Where do I look for the resistor? Would this still only happen once the transmission is warmed up if the resistor is bad/missing?

OK, just went out and checked my PCM. Where would I look for the resistor? Didn't really look like there was room for one, but I didn't pull any plugs off it.

OK, DTT finally opened and Bill K. recommended the following, in order:

1. transmission Output Sensor

2. "The Resistor" - mine doesn't have one, he said I might have to add one but isn't certain since my TC still locks up.

3. Governor Pressure Sensor - doubles as transmission temp sensor, might be putting me in limp-home mode when it warms up.

I'm going to have it hooked up to a computer tomorrow. Any other ideas? Yeas/nays on the above?

Sounds like Bill has it covered. On the resistors, mine had a nice variable installed with the upgrade and it went well but started going into limp mode so I added a 50 Ohm to the existing one and has worked great, Before my volts were at 4. 4 now there at 4. 09. Once you change the pressures via V/B the transmission tries to tell the PCM that something is wrong via voltage, now it's up to a resistor to tell it, nope that's just fine.

It was the governor pressure sensor. Still no resistor needed in mine.
