OK, time for another one of Juan's "dumb, but learning" questions...

I have had several trucks before my current one, but this is my first dually. My dealer rotated my times for the first time last week and besides not moving the valve stems (it was a pita threading the stem on - I had to use a soda straw), he has the tires mounted wrong (these are directional tires and both sets of rears are backwards). I figured that one out by myself (in 5 days!)

Here's my dumb question:

When the truck came new, both valve stems on the rears lined up (in the same position). After rotating, one set lines up, the other is 180° around. Does this matter? I'm heading back tonight to have them move the tires to their correct positions, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Next time I'll probably do it myself, but I didn't have time this time.

Old timer's, (and you other smart ones) what do you think?

Juan

LOL, your dealer and my tire guy musta went to the same school.

I didn't have the dealer rotate them but a tire shop while it was getting the front end alighed. Not only did they not put the valve extension on the right place, they didn't even put them on, they threw them away and I had to buy more!!!

Then on one side of duals they had the inner valve stem pointing at the back side of the outer rims cross bars instead of at and opeing in the rim. They don't have to be pointed at each other, but it is the handiest way, but they atleast have to be pointed at a hole. So I had to fix them also.

To me it is common sence and they get paid to be stupid, will be doing it myself from now on... ...

For what its worth...

I went back to the dealer to have them fix the boo-boo they made with the rear tires and after talking to three service techs it became obvious that none of them knew about directional tires. I had to take them through the owner's manual and show them where the tires are marked on the sidewall "This side outward".

Their response was "gee, we didn't notice that before". I told them that since goodyear is the ONLY maker of the tires on their trucks and that all of them are directional, they need to look out.

That being said, all you 3rd gen dually owners (as dumb as me) need to make sure they put them back on your truck the right way when someone else rotates them.

Guess I'll just do it myself from now on.

Juan

I didn't know those were directional. Just ran out to check and my fronts are on backwards, but outers are correct. 9 pm, cold as hell, no slippers, I think I'll wait till morning to worry about the inners!:D

Juans Dumb Ass Questions

Juan, Go to McGee co, 4412 Prospect Ave, Abq NM.

Buy 4-- #3640, #462-00416, 1 1/4 valve stems, and

buy 2-- # 3641, # 462-36415, 2" valve stems, and

buy2-- #HE372, #468-00372, valve extensions.

Go to Discount Tire, 2700 Juan Tabo, price is about $50. 00 to change all 6 tires to something you can air up. As far as the tread pattern goes, there's only one way the run, pay attention to the stuff written on the side walls. I'm on my 3rd dually in 30 years, 1st one went 28 years, 2nd one went 'till the auto transmission crapped out, now with an '03 6er HO, real sweet machine. Ron
