You used the Amsoil MP to help get the tube off. When I ordered my oil I forgot to get a can of the MP. Will some wd40 work ok do you think.

I am sure it will. Mine came off a little harder this time probably since engine was hot. I will let everything cool next time like I usually do.

Can i just add what a clean engine bay you have ;-)

check out Servicing Stop as they fix anything and everything to do with cars and have a brilliant service, they pick your car up, fix it and drop it back off! Plus 50% off your service! :D

This is how I did mine yesterday. Saran wraps worked fine but I'm thinking of getting the Geno's cap which would probably work better. Geno's is is going to make a ton of money with this little jewel. Geno's link is in the comments of the video if anyone wants to look at it.

Nice video, thanks

Genos's cap would work well. Talking to a service tech at my local dealership about the R46 recall. We got to talking about the oil filter removal, they do it thru the fender well. How he does it ,he just stuffs his finger wrapped in a rag in the threads of the filter , that seals it enough to pull it out without a mess. I may just try it. In the process being that I'm a cheapskate making a aluminum cap, but so far cannot find anything that matches the threads of the filter.

I am definitely going back to the fender well for the filter, had enough of that tearing parts off the engine, and leaning over the fender.

I guarantee if they are removing the filter with a hot engine they are dumping oil on the frame. Only way oil does not flow out the top of the filter is if it has had a chance to cool and siphon back.

That's a very good point. My gauge was reading 140 F when I pulled the truck into the garage. By the time I got around to actually removing the filter, it wasn't too hot to hold and the level in the filter was down so nothing came out till I tilted it in the ziploc. The service manual recommends something similar. I'm definitely going to get the Geno cap. It'll make it simple taking it out and going in.

I grew up in the oil business. Family had a Texaco Distriborship, and I worked in service stations. I was taught that you change oil on a fully warmed up engine. That keeps "things" in suspension and will get dropped with the oil.

Been following that early learning for almost 6 decades. Snoking

Yes, I always felt that way also. With non detergent oils, it was real important.

Yep, drain the oil warm, let cool to change the filter.

Having the ability of working at a machine shop, I made a aluminum cap that screws into my filter and seals so you can take out your old filter, and prefill your new, all through the fender.

I should have patented the damn thing, because I see genos has come up with the same similar thing a year later, damn it. o well, it works very well.

What's the pitch & diameter on those threads? The Geno's model is a bit pricey considering I can make one too.

I will have this present truck until about 80-100K , and it just doesn't make sense for ME to change the oil twice a year ,and spend just twice as much for oil . I agree if I was going to keep it for the long run it would make sense.

it may not make sense, but if you care about warranty issues, you'll care then (or not). I've been changing my oil every 6 months since new and for the first 35k, didn't bother me much since I was putting on some good mileage. NOW, it's gonna be a pain since I won't even put 4-5k in 6 months. heck, since I got back from the mines and work on base (that was back in late April with roughly 37k showing), I haven't even put 1k miles on her ( I think I just rolled 37.8k miles yesterday). talk about a waste. I'll still do it til my warranty runs out, then it's game on.
I love my truck and can't wait for the day to put her through some work pulling a 5er. She's had it pretty easy since day one. I think the hardest thing it's done is haul 3400 lbs of rock. :)

I bought my 2016 Ram Laramie 2500 CTD 4x2 LB/CC in Jan. I took delivery of it on 11Mar16. I now only have 3217 miles on it so either I have to run the wheels off of it in the next couple of weeks or I need to take it to the dealer some time in the end of August or early September and have the oil and filters changed. I have not even rotated the tires yet. I usually do that every time I have the lube & oil service done. I figure at this rate I will have 100k on the truck in maybe 25years. Maybe I will take my wife to "Lake Okoboji".(Arnolds Park,Iowa) She's never been there, and I haven't been there in 50 years or so. That would be a nice trip.

When we bought this vehicle we had planned on doing a lot of traveling after "SWMbO" aka "She Who Must be Obeyed" aka my wife retired from her job. Well, due to things happening beyond our control we have yet to go anywhere. We did put almost 2200 miles on it in the first month we had the truck, (we went to Reno,NV. and back, and over to Yuma AZ and back.) The funny part of this is we have not even used a 1/4 tank of DEF yet!

Hope fully come September when it starts cooling off we will go some where for a week or so.
