I think i have spent hours searching the forums about this and have learned alot, but i still feel i need to ask my own question?:D I am in the process of getting a edge comp box and was wondering how it will perform with bd 120 horse injectors. I am still unsure if i am going to tap the pump wire, i have 75k on the factory pump with the injectors and bd chip (65hp). Should i be looking for a pump if i tap the wire? Also has anyone with a similar set up have dyno#s, i will be taking the bd chip off. The bullydog injectors and chip have been great just want try the comp because everyone seems to really like them. :D :D :D Thanks Corey

I have never thought of a fuel line upgrade before, would that help with tapping the pump wire or anything? I do know of the nwbombers but never thought about signing up till now!:D :D

Corey,

along with the fuel line upgrade looking at your sig if you dont have a clutch you will definitly need one. I dont know what your egts are with what you have now but the edge box will probably be quite a bit hotter. You may also be looking for a turbo soon. I have a drag comp box and bd 180's and with the box off I can hit 1500* at will. And I'm probably no where near the elevation you frequently see.

Corey, with having both box and injectors it's a good idea to get rid of the banjo bolts.

My stock clutch went out at 50k, so i have a good one. My biggest concern is the vp44 holding out with the wire tap. BTW i am looking at getting a turbo. I am currently at 2,300 feet or so, last week i was in laramie, wy and i felt like my truck was dragging a ford around the whole time and when i got back home the truck ran like normal, so i think i might be ok on elevation.

I ran a Drag comp and BD4's with a 35 for a few weeks while I was waiting on my Baby HX55 hybrid to be completed. The box was basically relegated to setting 2 as anything else got really toasty really fast. I had upgraded the fuel lines as well as replaced the stock LP with a Holley Blue by the tank. So far the VP44 is still alive after a totol of 36K w/ the wire tapped.

First off, you're going to have a LOT of smoke- the BD120s are not a clean injector. But you already have them, so why not go with them.

When combined with a Comp, you'll not only need a clutch and fuel line upgrade (highly recommend Wildcat's Max Flow), but a minimum of an upgraded turbo (Dodgezilla, PDR40, or KSB1-B) and a pusher pump (carter, aeromotive/PE4100, FASS/Preporator).

While I see nothing wrong with the COMP, per se (maybe too much timing), I would strongly consider the TST Powermax competition box. It's very aggressive and will certainly give you all the fuel you can handle for now. It's also cheaper- and they word is that it's a hair more reliable too. I say a hair, because generally both the Edge and TST boxes are very reliable, with perhaps the TST having a slightly better record. Most of the issues with Edge boxes are monor things like burned out LEDs and such.

The other reason I would push the TST is that the extra timing of the COMP is not as good on the HO engines. The higher compression ratio and higher injection pressures of the HOs mean the engine's under more stress and that the engine needs less timing.

It depends IMHO on whether or not you plan on loading the truck up heavily-- like pushing max GVWR. If not, the comp is perfectly fine I'd say. But if you're going to be towing really heavy, you want to play it safe and forfeit the extra timing.

When I tap the wire, my EZ will be up for sale. And I never tow. No stacking for me.

Ok, this may sound a little stupid bit i'm new to the comp world. If i dont tap the wire i will still will have 65/185 from the comp, right? Would i be able to shut the comp off if needed and be able to access the de-fueling modes for setting one? I love the idea of the comp but i still need a turbo and fuel pump helpers before i tap, i ordered a comp this morning and now i wondering if i be able to access these features. Thanks corey

Yes, with the pump wire untapped, and the comp turned on (and on any setting) you will basically have an EZ. You can also turn it off and have no additional power from the comp.

Comp Box

Corey, with a good set of injectors I find that I generally keep the box off most of the time. There are the other times that I turn the box on  LOTS OF SMOKE :D

I don't own a Drag Comp but I'll toss in my 2 cents worth on the subject.

I run BD4's (125hp) with an Edge EZ stacked with a PowerMax Competition box and seem to handle the EGT's pretty well. (stock turbo with a AFE Megacanon and 4" exhaust) The only time I have problems with EGT's is on level 5 or above. I have never run a Drag Comp (maybe soon though) but I will say the TST box is nice if you keep it in level 5 or lower. If you go up into levels 6-9 the defueling shutter gets pretty nasty for daily driving. They really do mean Competition when they say it. ;) The Edge Drag Comp is nice in the fact that you don't have this shuttering and it makes the box a little more user friendly. As far as the BD4's go, I love them, they make some awesome lowend power with the TST box.

As far as tapping the wire goes I have a 99 that has lived through about 70k with the wire tapped but I do think the pump is getting weaker. :( (or I'm getting used to the power again) :p

Lastly, The fueling system upgrades I think are a little over rated IMO. You need a fuel pressure gauge to monitor the lift pump, a set of drilled banjos to let it push a little more volume to the VP44 and give her he!!. I've run this set up for some time now and can only drag the fuel pressure down to 9psi under WOT with the TST on kill. With the money you save not buying into the fuel system upgrades you can put it torwards the extra HP.

I'm sure you will love the extra Ponies you'll get with the Drag Comp, and that's all that really matters right. :)
