I just got my Edge Comp box. I really just want an EZ box for now. Can I hook up the pump wire now and just leave the box on level 1? That way when I'm ready all I have to do is adjust the level. What level and sublevel is equivalent to an EZ? What does the pump wire do? Does anyone know what the HP gain is for each of the 5 levels? What about sublevels? Do the sublevels affect HP or response or what? Also, what's different about the wastgate elbow that comes with the Comp vs the stock elbow? One last question, the instructions don't say anything about the black wire in the same harness as the pump wire. I assume it's a ground and necessary even if not hooking up the pump wire? Is there a recommended place that's works for the black wire?

Thanks in advance, lots of questions,

Dave MacArthur

WELL YOU COULD DO THAT...

Dave,

That is one way to do it, although not want I am doing. I am waiting to hook up the pump wire on hte COMP that I have untill

1) Warrenty is up, and

2) I have the proper transmission upgrades.

Untill these 2 requirments are met, no pump wire for me.

Don't let fellow member BFC get in your mind, he will take you over to the dark side if he can. ;) :p

Andrew

Just a side note, I noticed that BFC has changed his avitar and no longer has a bag over his head , he is now flying high,BFC is no longer in the dark:eek: :D :)

Besides I have never seen a fellow TDR member ever attempt to lead anyone asstray ;) :p

Never made that connection before...

You know, I never thought about that with Glenn(BFC)'s avitar, but your right. So Glenn were you just ashamed of being stock?

As for leading another member astray, just stay clear of that BOMB bug, that is the hardest part! Once it starts, it doesn't stop.

I sat on the fence for a long time trying to decide to tap or not to tap. well i just did it, but i used the new blue chips pump cover replacement. guys, you have got to get one of these things it is a very slick little unit. very clean looking when installed, no nicks in the wire from those horrid scotch locks. and the dealer will never know;) now as far as waiting for transmission upgrades, i think that is a good move, later

ps if you order the plate, order the tool for the bolts on the cover. it is a "new" style of security head torx bit. it only has 5 points instead of the old 6 point torx design. i have been told matco carries them or you can get them from blue chips.

Rubberneck

That pump cover deal sounds interesting, defenitely interesred in going stealth with hooking up the pump wires. Could YOU name your source ,phone #cost etc? Ithink i,m ready to upgrade my from my EZ.

Thanks,Ian

treeman, my wife got the cover for me for christmass, as far as i know ordered it straight from blue chips diesel (check the links on this site) i dont know exact price, since i didn't order it, but i think the cover is about 50 bucks. i know the bit to get the cover bolts out was 9 bucks, if you order the plate, order the bit so you have it on hand in case you need to swap back in a hurry, otherwise, next time there is a bombing party in this area id be happy to put the cover on for ya.

PM me if you have any other questions

Treeman, the price rubverneck gave is correct. I just installed mine before Christmas... ... ... ... . Slick unit.

Funny how connecting that one little wire can make such big difference aint it. Man these diesels are too cool... You know what you have to do to a gasser to get that kind of performance increase. . :)

Thanks for all the info. That pump cover sounds like something I will have to get. Any more info on my questions?

Thanks again,

Dave

Dave

I'll try to answer your other questions. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Level 1, sub-level 5... ... ..... seems to be equal to just an EZ

Main levels are power levels

Sub-levels are smoke levels

From horseing around with my box, here is what I've come up with.

Level 5, sub-level 5. most power and smoke, although the smoke dissipates with more boost

Level 5, sub-level 1. lot of power, little smoke.

Level 1, sub-level 1. least power, least smoke.

Off... ... ... ... ... ... ..... man... ... ... ... ... I wish it was on 5x5 :D :D

Usually, I drive around with my comp set @ 1x5.

Hope this answers your questions.

Batman, what actually causes the smoke? Is it extra unburnt fuel? If so, do you get the same power gains with a level 5 smoke, as you do with a level 1 smoke, or do ya get just a little extra?

Ditto. However, I wish I had gotten the info on the Blue Chips pump cover *before* I used the horrid scotch lock on my pump wire. Now that I have, I wonder if I can go to the pump cover...

Can someone post the info on it? I looked at Blue Chips website and found nothing on it.

Thanks!

Duane, it's not advertised on their site, you will have to call them. The plate is $50, and the tip you'll need to replace it is $9. I just ordered mine on New Years Eve, hopefully it will be here about the same time as the Edge Comp, that I ordered the day after Christmas.

TK... ..... your reasoning is correct for the smoke, Mostly unburned fuel due to lack of boost, once your boost goes up, the smoke goes down. Therefore, more fuel, more power... ... ... . to a point!

If I have my box on 5x5, I get a good cloud if I try to, if you take off normally, there isn't much smoke.

Just recieved my vp44 cover,no instructions . Is it pretty self explanatory when you look at it . Too dark to check it out right now . Any installation hints from you guys who have already done it. Thanks.

treeman, remove the old cover, set the new cover in place with the set screws backed off (the sharp one and the other allen head). tighten down the 5 (i think it was 5) original torx screws making sure the pump cover is resting in its (and i qoute from the blue chips directions) "happy place" these just need be nice and snug, not cranked, it is a plastic cover remember. then run down the sharp allen screw (the one closest to the motor or upper one) until you just feel resistance. then turn it in 3 and 1/2 turns more, then snug down the lock nut. this one pierces the connector. on the lower allen screw (blunt bottom), run it down till you feel it bottom, just snug, do not crank it down. tighten that lock nut. turn on the key to the truck and check across the 2 allen bolts that you have 12 volts. you are tapped. note, i did not use the blue chips supplied wires and the emi choke. i simply attached the power wire for my box to the sharp (upper) allen bolt, and my ground wire to the lower allen bolt. all is good.

according to the directions if i remember correctly, if you do not have power across the 2 leads when you check, make sure the lower blunt screw is still snug (this is the ground), and then turn the sharp allen bolt in 1/2 turn at a time until you do have 12 volts. any questions , pm me and i will walk you through it

I was wondering the same thing, and I didn't see anyone answer. I'm waiting for the special pump cover, but in the meantime I'd like to get the EZ features. If I hook up the MAP sensor and CANbus plugs, and feed the box with 12v on the cab red wire, will it work? More importantly, will not hooking up the black ground wire do any damage?
