Friends,

Getting ready to install two cameras with camera selector switch on my 2017 Ram 5500. They will connect to my Edge CST2 Monitor. I already ran the video cables into the truck at the same time I ran the airline and air horn control circuit on my just completed Viair onboard compressor project.

My truck has factory backup camera located above the rear license plate and it works great, but I'm wanting to install a camera on for hooking up my 5th wheel and one on the grill guard on the front of my truck. I'm no longer able to rare up in the front seat and strain my bad back and bad neck to watch hitching. If you have a good back and neck, you may not need the cargo camera. Although there is a kit sold to connect to your 8.4Nav system, its pricey, and you have to take the console apart. So I bought a couple cameras on Amazon for $30 ea and will use them.

My access in and out of the cab is penetrating the parking brake grommet on the firewall. Used a utility knife to slit it.

Here's what I'm using.

Here are video plugs from the cameras. I will feed one video lead up the A post to the CST2 RCA plug and mount video switch right under dash to the right of brake release.

And here is the target, the CST2

So, more to come tomorrow as I execute this project.

Ron, That's pretty nice deal running cables around so can look out through the grill, hooking up the hitch is really more important. Have you put your spare tire back on top for your trip?

Friends,

Got the cargo camera installed and working today. Had to drill the roll bar, remove my upper backup light and fish dedicated power lead and video cable up to the camera from underneath the truck. How many of y'all can claim you FISHED in your shop.

Here's some pics:

Video switch in the cab to switch from front to rear. This is view from floor... you cain't see it sitting in the seat.

Here's where I popped the side of the dash to run the double ended RCA cable from the CST2 to the video switch.

Here's the camera working. BTW, decided to connect both cameras to Aux Sw 5 versus running lights or Aux Sw 4 CB/ACC.

Not bad for $30 each for the cameras at Amazon versus $179 from Edge. I can't reverse the view. but the view like looking in rear view mirror works for me.

Will complete front camera on the grill tomorrow and provide pics.

Cheers, Ron

My 2019 has plenty of cameras, so no need of installing more. But where did you get the pillar mount for your CTS2? I want to install one there as well, but do not want to get rid of the handle, when replacing the pillar for the CTS2 pillar mount.

Amazon. google edge pillar mount to find best deal... got mine for $60 but saw them for up to $80.

My wifes truck has 360 view, but adding cargo to mine will help hitching and checking cargo.
