Power steering out

Do I really need to use a fuel additive in my Cummins?

I'm lovin' it!

Here are my findings after one night of driving:

•Smoke went from dark gray clouds to "destroyer on full boil. " :D

•Without touching my pump, gained 10psi. Now around 36psi (that is on a warm day). But I hit 40psi after monkeying with my pump a little (and REALLY FAST too!)... and my clutch held????

•Idle dropped about 150rpm.

•Seat of the pants factor says YES! :D

Now, if I could just get a clutch in this pig to hold MORE POWER! :D

But, for you guys that know what you're talking about:

What needs to be beefed up/upgraded to hold all the boost and power?

Intercooler boots?

Hey I am glad you are having fun. I don't think you have to worry about the intercooler boots quite yet. I run 40-45 psi daily and have not have a problem. Propane on or off still no problem. I did have the motor mount bolts sheer off. Not sure what from, but not only did it happen once it happened twice.

Personally I think the getrag and the rearend will be the weakest link. Just make sure everything is good and watch out for leaks. It could mean that parts or pieces maybe loosing up. Torque everything down and have fun. Cant wait to see that thing run on the dyno up there at the first gen day at Piers.

keep us informed on how it performs.

What about EGT's? How have they changed?

Another thing, I've read that Nascar Mark said and I've started doing even though I don't have a oil temp gauge, don't hammer or get on it until your oil temp has reached a certain level?- Basically I wait for a few miles or at least til on factory coolant temp gauge, it gets above the cold mark.

Getrag-> try not to send all that power through it at low low lugging RPM's , such as trying to get in a higher gear faster to race the ricers.

Clutch-> you probly know this one, but to all, its not a foot rest, return foot to floor off the clutch pedal between shifts.

The oil temp suggestion is a solid tip... . SOME cautionary steps can help keep these poor ole girls going longer ... especially when you look at how we treat 'em. .

Yep, I'm well aware that the getrag and rear end are weak links. I'm currently saving for a D80 and an NV5600. I'm going to get a Con O for now, and then an OFE once I get the 6 speed.

Next week my truck is going to the shop for a full paintjob and body-work along with all new trim and grill... plus I'm doing some other cool stuff (getting rid of flatbed for regular bed+lund visor etc :D ). I'll post pics. :D

Oil temps? Hmm... never thought of that. I do allow my truck to warm up to normal water temps before I hotrod though.

I can't tell you much on EGT's, but, believe it or not, my cruisng EGT's are down about 75*... max egt's don't seem to have changed much, but I'll have to take a trailer up a grade to really tell.

Things are really lookin' up for the ol' girl! :D

I'll keep you guys posted.

EDM's are use to gain a better burn w/increased atomization... . no?

Why all the smoke? A'm I missing something here. No-body and their brother don't want POD's 'cause ... . well... ... they SMOKE!!! Everyone want's EDM's.

Maybe I missed a night at "Our Lady" some time back, I dunno.....

If they smoke that badly, why spend all that $$$$$ on them. Just git the POD's.

Scott

Oh yah, one can also clean out the POD tips with a torch tip cleaner:D

Scott-

I'll bet he's nrunnin 12-14 hole EDMs  - Chris? With my POD comparable 8 hole EDMs & twins I can still put out a cloud of Our Lady's Sacramental smoke if the situation calls for it. :D

I don't know about Chris's but my EDMs don't have the nasty haze at normal driving speeds like the PODs did. I don't think Chris's are EPA approved anyway. :D

Chris- Don't worry about the IC boots. You''ll know when you've reached their limit. ;) Just keep an extra pair of undies in the truck.

"... ... . Oh yah, one can also clean out the POD tips with a torch tip cleaner... . "

Darn it Scott... I told you not to talk about that... well, atleast you didn't tell about how we do that to extrude hone the POD tips... whew... . close one... :D:D:D

Greenleaf, the EDMs Chris has are PODs then some , so yes they will smoke, but not as much as honed PODs, or something comparable. My EDMs will lay a grey haze if I get on it at lower RPM, too. I think the EDM tips work better with the higher pressure of the P7100 or VP44 than they do with the relatively low pressure VE.

Chris, how wide is your flatbed? If it is close to 7. 5-8ft, let me know.

Daniel

These EDM's smoke at idle, they smoke a little when just going down the road.

They flow like aggressively honed POD's with the smoke of a regular POD. They are only 5 holes, the 8 hole design that most of you hear of with the second gens just won't work due to the lower injection pressures.

"... ... homebrewed extrude-hone job the PASTOR is babbling about?..... " :-laf :-laf.....

Hey I don't babble... you must be thinking of ECJay..... ya that's it. .

On second thought... I got some shower heads that you can literally read the paper thru the holes... . kinda dribbly though... . :D

pb... :D:D
