2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission electric Cooling fans

Has anybody used electric cooling fans to replace the original factory fan ?

Yep, the Flex-A-Lite custom fans for our trucks are great in every regard - well engineered, fit nicely, look awesome, and free up power. I have towed 10k on relatively flat terrain in moderate outside temps and the needle doesn't go any higher than it did with the stock fan. There will be some limit because they do not flow as much as the stock fan, but I have not found it yet. I did save everything just in case so I could go back to stock if need be. If you are towing a 15k 5 or goose up Roosevelt Pass or Laughlin, NV in the middle of July that might be too much for them.

Check back with me in a few months as I will hopefully have towed my new 42' gooseneck some by then...

Flex a lite says fans are good up to 18000 gvw towing

Flex a Lite is 5500 cfm, factory fan when fully engaged is 8000 cfm as I recall, but at what RPM I don't know.

Factory engine fan pulls approx 10,000 CFM at 2000 rpm. No electric or flex fan can come close.

My Buddy and his brother have ford Cummins conversions and they don't run fans at all and they tow regularly I know that they have 2 gallon more cooling capacity than I do but i think it would work for me . we rarely hit over 90 degrees on the hottest days of summer

Its really kinda pointless to run electric fans because when the fan clutch isnt engaged its basically spinning freely with very little resistance. Plus if you install electric fans you have to make sure they're wired into the A/C system otherwise you'll destroy the compressor.

I have thought about electric fans for better mileage and generally quieter operation, but despite being within 200 miles of Canada it gets pretty hot here. We had triple digits half the month of July and reached 109 one day. There were plenty of days this summer my truck's fan spent most of its time fully engaged.

They work fine in the colder climate, help the engine warm up faster. But in the heat of the south they don't hold up. My truck would stay cool when not towing but would overheat with a small load. I also went through 2 fan motors and a couple of relays. I didnt see any gain in MPG's either. So in my opinion they are not worth the money.
