Has any one else seem to just get lost when trying to option out a new truck and figure out if your better off starting with the next modle up to save money. And all of the crap that as soon as you add one option others you want need to be removed?:--)

Yup. And I found I cannot order exactly what I want because of that. Must have something to do with the way they run the production lines. However, as I have mentioned in other posts, you spend this much money for a light truck...you should be able to get what you want since it is offered. And it would be veeeeery helpful if the dealers and Ram published a list of options that show up in a package. I have a stack of printouts from various window stickers showing the options and letter codes and then I highlight what I would want to have. The dealers have these lists, at least I think they do, but we have to do it the hard way. Also I found that Ram has an after market option book that has lots of goodies in it. Had to get it at a dealer but it's available for the 1500 and up series. For instance, the side chrome door strips are available. Only saw a few online trucks with these but I would want those to protect the sides. And Joe Donnelly (thank you) provided some vin code information that made it much easier to search online. The pictured trucks are not always the same as the window sticker.

As always, the salesmen are clueless. You will know more than they do by watching this forum and doing your own research.

Yes! Just ordered a 2014 3500. Getting rid of the 2012- 4x4 Crew w/ Ram Box due to poor mileage. Otherwise the truck has been flawless. I used Joe Donnelly's comparison of the ST (now Tradesman) with options vs the Big Horn write up in issue 82 (I think). The ST Joe "built" was almost exactly what I wanted, including upgrading to the Aisen trans. Im my area there is currently $3000.00 in rebates, and another $500 Ram Box rebate for having a registered bussiness, and $500 Military Discount ( Retired!) The Ram Box is an option I will have on every truck I own from now on, including when we trake my wifes F-150 for the 1500 Eco Diesel next year. You won't realize how nice it is to have thes until you do!

I need to get a copy of that write up, i some how let my subscription slip away and have missed a few issues(problem now solved) the Ram box is a definite on my list.. Is the tuano cover they offer any good at the 4 or 5 hundred they want? i just wish the Quad cab was still available in a 2500. I know its not a big difference until you are trying to parallel park in DC . i wish i could get the Aisen but they don't offer it in a 2500 and i need to keep the gvw at 10k because of the BS laws MD have about trucks 10,001lbs and over. but the 68rfe has been decent to me so far. is there a good site that really lets you see all the extra options up close and personal because the main site and even the downloaded brochure fall short.
