I recently purchased a 2004.5, 2500, 4x4, quad cab, long box. As far as I know it is completely stock. it currently has 142,000 miles I bought it with 138,000.
I have been driving it highway and interstate, virtually all 4,000 miles. I change the oil the same day I bought the truck and have had to add about 1-1.5 quarts of oil per 1,000 miles driven.
I have been looking up different discussions on this topic, and have found everything from its normal to it's about time for an over hall.
**as a note, the truck does smoke. More than I would expect for a stock truck. Dark brown smoke, no white or blue mixed in, that I can see.**
My questions are:
1) is this a normal consumption of oil for hiway speeds unloaded?
If not,
2) am I due for a valve job soon?
3) I read about the turbo seal leaking into the exhaust. How do I go about checking that?
Any ideas and thoughts and experiences with this welcome. Thanks
