Adding chips or boxes to Increase hoursepower will void your warranty. I was at the dealer and even If the wires are cut or fooled with can cause you trouble. That one problem I don't need. If you need a engine a diesel 10,000 for a new one. It don't make any difference If It a ford,GM or Dodge. Better think twice.

When I would talk to techs at my dealership, I was amazed at how much time they allocated in class to detecting performance mods.

They were told to look for things LIKE:

The obvious cut wires

ANY velcrow under the hood

Any spots on engine that are cleaner than the other parts

Non-EOM clamps under the hood anywhere

KEY-cycle count in ECM (this is a HUGE ONE!)

Non-DRB enabled tire size change (like this a programmer)

Color of housing on turbo (high egt?)

Wrong country in ECM (again a programmer thing sometimes)

I am surprised that this surprises anybody. The company I work for actually tracks the help desk agents abilities to cut down on warranty returns. They don't encourage them to be dishonest, they train them to spot solutions that don't require the use of the warranty IE in home fixes.

It should come as no surprise that the automobile manufacturers want to cut down on paid warranty claims as well. They cut into profits. When you purchase your truck, you are also in effect purchasing the warranty that comes with it. Dodge/GM/Ford writes that warranty with certain performance criteria in mind. I don't believe that it includes 600 RWHP and/or 900 ft/lb of torque.

Uh - me too - what is key cycle count, and how is it used to detect modifications?

A downloader will reset the key count cycle, a low key count would look very suspicious!

Thanks for the aboe information guys.

I never had a problem with the velcro being in place when I was having warrenty work done. , but that is good to know.

I'am my own warrenty station now, as I'm now past 100m on my 01. 5 Oo.

funny you mention this one... they even look for added wires. say for instance, the two added to the back plug on the ECm that the Jacobs E brake uses...

they told me they wouldnt look at the codes i threw because of "extra wires going into the ECM" needless to say i wanted to slap someone.

That is correct, When I look into the ECM with a DRB and see like 125 or something on an 04 model, I would be asking why...

Most truck will have a minimum of 500 key cycles a year. Most are more like 1200 a year.

on a similiar note, when the truck sets a code, the ECM counts how many succesful starts that the code did not appear again... Kinda cool to see if a code if intermintent or all the time

Also depends on the dealer too. Some may look the other way when it comes to mods. Also depends on the tech that looks at your truck too. The tech is the one who tells the service manager who then calls the customer about the warranty.

Bottom line, If you want to play be prepared to pay.

The dealer isn't much help once STAR gets involved.

Yeah Star really has a lot to do with warranty work.
I don't know if your comment is serious or not. In case it's sarcastic, do you think the dealer can replace a high-dollar part that's on restriction without DC involvement and approval? (Example - the VP44 injection pump on my truck. ) Part of that approval process is verifying that the truck hasn't been modified, right?

No it was serious I didn't mean it to sound sarcastic. I'm just saying that some dealers are more mod friendly than others

Its like are trucks are baseball players and were shooting them up with steriods, then we go for service to get tested. :-laf
