I replaced my factory LP a year ago with an AirDog and am currently rebuilding the engine. As I am putting it together i am looking for ways to save space. i thought about eliminating the LP mounting bracket to provide easier access to the starter. Isn't that bracket covering up some holes or something? How about if I just cut the top side of the bracket off and bolt the engine mounting side back up?

Any thoughts?

Not sure about yours, but on our 12 valve engines you can use a big block Chevy fuel pump block off plate to cover the hole. I haven't done this but have read that it will work.

When I eliminated my Carter LP several years ago (long before FASS and Airdog)... I simply cut the bracket down and made it into a cover plate. I believe if you remove the bracket there might be a gasket there sticking to the block. That gave me the impression the block was solid there... but if I recall... it in fact was a hole. I say this because I pushed on the area with a screwdriver and it moved. IE: Gasket. I didn't peel it off to have a look cause I didn't want to introduce a leak and not have a new gasket on hand. I left well enough alone. I needed to get to work on Monday. :)

I believe you can install 12V piston lift pumps on 24V engines... IF... you have a cam with a drive lobe to power the pump. Otherwise... the hole is just there for no real reason other than the castings are the same.

Verify that you have a fuel pump hole there. Double check a solid hole isn't just a gasket. If the hole is there... block it off.
