Search this and the other topics for "weld" and you should find plenty of answers. From what I have read in recent months on this forum hitches have to be bolted, not welded on a Ram. I believe that welding can cause frame failures.

DO NO WELD... too many weldors (experienced) will weld in a manner that "invites" fractures. Besides you can tighten or replace bolts!

Take it to camping world or u-haul & they
would probably weld it to the frame. DUH!!
There should be a law that you need an IQ
higher than a grade 5 bolt to before you can hold a job installing hitchs & wiring plugs.
What I'm trying to say is you should never
weld to the frame. Besides that it voids the warranty. Rick

Don't weld it unless you're itching to post in this topic-What have you toed and lost on the road?Surprised no one there has posted about loseing the whole rear end of their truck along with the trailer.

I almost bought a hotdog from CampingWorld one time but it was way too expensive. They are the Harley Davidson dealership of the RV world. More power to them but a bit pricey for me.
I have to stand up for U-Haul though. I'm aware of their family troubles but they have always done me right with price and product. I've bought several hitches from them and had the first one installed by them. They bolted it on and torqued it down properly. I was welcome to hang around the shop with them. From there on I did my own installations.
I always bolt to the frame. I don't even like to see exhaust hangers welded to the frame. Just my humble opinion!

I am installing a Reese 16K hitch in a 97 Ram. Are there any advantages of welding over bolting hitch to frame?
