I guess maybe it’s because GM, Ford, and Dodge have test grounds out here, but I was crawling in a jam on I-70 eastbound in Denver this morning, and low and behold, passing me westbound, was a 2003 red standard cab 3500 dually. It was a sport model, and it looked like it had been driven quite a bit, with dusty and muddy panels.
Since it was my first personal look, on the road no less, I do have some personal observations. First, the truck is a brute, as in “hide the kids and get out of the way”. Maybe it was the standard cab, but the grill looked like it would swallow small cars in it’s way. Somehow, the grill and hood seemed even more massive than it does on the 1500’s, where I thought the opposite would be true. I will say that from an appearance standpoint, the monochromatic look on the sport will be my preference to the big chrome grill. I’m sure it will appeal to those looking for a truck with a tough, big rig stance, but I’m having a hard time getting over the big pie hole on the front of these things. My truck (2001) looks downright sleek by comparison, but I've always appreciated how great the 2nd generation Dodge look has held up compared to newer truck designs. Somewhere down the road I’ll have to get a new truck, but I’ll always feel like I’ll be compromising good looks, be it a new gen Dodge, Ford, or GM!!
My 2 cents.
