Do you work for Holt or Peterson? I worked at Peterson for 5 years.

i worked for holt, went through the think big program with a 3. 5 gpa. currently studying for a b. a. in mechanical engineering.

Crankshaft balancer for Cummins - Pittsburgh Power - High performance diesel engine systems

this is the link to pittsburgh power's crank balancer, different then a damper. i would really like to see these available for our engines, coupled with the aftermarket balancers i think our engines could run extremely smooth and nice.

Actually if you read post#15 at the compdiesel link that I posted above,

The 6. 7 viscous damper is 2 or 3 pounds HEAVIER then the Fluidampr.

While I have not yet confirmed this with independent research, the guy

Who wrote the post also provided many of the other detailed specs of the

Installation.

I HAVE pm'd him and hope to hear back from him, as he seems to know his wAy around these trucks.

I read that but I don't know if the weight he states is for the direct-replacement Fluidampr for the 6. 7 engine, or how that compares to a second-gen Fluidampr that weighs 24 pounds, 13 more than the 5. 9 stock.

Fluidampr makes a different damper for the different engines and using the 6. 7 damper for a 5. 9 will be an improvement, but it might weigh less than the model-specific Fluidampr.

Mhannink,

I use Balance Masters mercury filled balancers on my wheels.

They also make driveline "bracelets" that help to fine tune driveshafts.

I WISH they would make on of the crankshafy balancers for the ISB !!!

I think that'll I'll contact them at some point and let htem know about the potential market, if they don't already.

You might well be right, but he seems pretty clear about it ...

"FluiDampr:

At ~ 9. 18" O. D. , it's 2. 5" high 90* shoulder clears a 5. 9L pulley by ~. 075", but it still lacks over 3lbs. on the OEM 6. 7L part... although either is over 50% more massive than the 5. 9CR's. "

He also sells the entire line of the fluidampers at his diesel shop.

STILL... Does anyone know or have good relation with a Cummins parts guy who could actually weigh one of the 6. 7 viscous dampers???

I guess it's an assumption from reading posts on another site. It was reasoned that since all the accessories are in the same place on the 6. 7 and 5. 9, that if you used the pulley and HB from the 6. 7 (all other pulleys are the same as is the belt) then belt removal would be the same as the 6. 7.

I can't see parts weight on Quick Serve so I just called my Cummins Distributor for this info.

They show the SHIPPING WEIGHT for a Crank damper 4933224 as published per Cummins for box and all at 35lbs.

Still nice to actually check one, Cummins Northeast does not have in stock at any branch.

Wish that they had one there, I would have had them throw it on a scale for me.

Mike. :)

Do you gave part numbers? I want to order those things for mine and it would help insure I get the right ones. I did mention to them the desire for a crank balancer if we all email them they might take it seriously

I do NOT have part#'s, but here is the link to their driveshaft balancers.

Balance Masters

Thay make them to fit any driveshaft in a range from 2" diameter to 5 3/8" diameter. That is a range of circumference from 6 1/4" to 16 7/8".

Youll have to measure either the radius or circumference of your driveshaft... I would think that it would be really easy to get a more accurate measurement of circumference then radius, particulalry if you can borrow and use your wife's or girlfreind's flexible seamstress tape. Be sure not to get oil or grease on it though, cause then things could get really difficult, really quickly. :-laf

Of course if you have access to pair of deep calipers, then you could measure diameter directly.

I have not yet measured the oem driveshaft on my truck simply becuase I am waiting until the center support finally fails and then I plan to upgrade to a one-piece aluminum driveshaft from the newer trucks and then I'll only have to buy one of these balancers instead of two of them, one for each shaft on each side of the center support.

There is more info at the link above.

PS--I also hapen to like my Balancemaster wheel balancers!!

High quality, simple slide on install as long as you get the right part# (disc versus drum brakes).

MWilson, thanks for trying to look that up. When I looked online for the weight of the 6. 7 damper, I got a site in Germany that was showing their shipping weight at 35 kg (not pounds) which coverts to about 76 pounds, shipping weight... My jaw dropped, and I figured I would wait to see what others would find out first. 35 pounds, including shipping ,materials, sounds MUCH more reasonable for this part.

How MUCH does your local Cummins counter want for one??

Maybe I'll just order it and the fan pulley and they can weight it when it comes in?
