For the 2nd Gen 24 valve 5.9 guys.

In my travels I met a young man who has a 2001 2500 4x4 auto. Short bed. With the disc brakes not drum brakes. 226k miles. He had the transmission rebuilt by a friend of a friend about a year ago and he thinks the OD solinoid is bad because at highway speeds his rpms are around 2400. I have not driven the truck. I think it might be something to do with the lockup switch! This young man is not a diesel guy! He wants a car. He is thinking about selling and asking $5500 I am considering buying this truck....truck was a family truck and has no mods cloth interior and in good shape body wise! Stock tires .. what are your thoughts?

Mite be a OK deal but keep in mind that your probably going to need to rebuild the tyranny soon and that will be a easy $2000. bill or more

For reference I bought my 2002 last year for 6500.00 it had 123560 miles with a 5 speed transmission and a new clutch and new set of Michelin Tires the owner listed it at 9000.00 and I made one offer and he took my offer
A lot depends on your location when you value a vehicle

If it has small tires and 4.10 gears, everything may be just fine. May also be something as simple as a solinoid. If everthing else is in good shape, *I would buy it...

I have one with stock tires and 4.10 gears, it turns 2000 rpm at 60 mph. (Until I hit the Gear Vendors OD which drops it to 1500!)
$2000 will only buy a poor, stock trans rebuild. The auto trans is the worst part of these trucks... $4000 - $6000 will get you a solid, durable transmission that you can use like a truck.
