Just installed new injectors into 2nd Gen 24 valve. Got to learn a bit of knowledge about this Diesel. All upgrades I have done are external.

My question 2 days after tear-down & install is this:

When the fuel flows through each line, into the cross-over tube, into injector, what keeps the fuel from leaking between cross-over tube & injector?

That metal-metal fit is just pressure between 2 apparently hard meatals. If it leaks, where does it go? Can't see the tubes from the top. PSI must be pretty high at this point, isn't it?

Will the fuel leak into oil?

I believe there is a "rifling" drilled through the cylinder head that allows any fuel that may leak back to the fuel tank via a banjo fitting at the rear of the cylinder head. Just down stream of this banjo fitting is a tee that ties into the fuel return from the injection pump. As far as the pressure in the lines goes, it should be somewhere around 4500 psi. I believe that is the "pop-off" pressure of the injectors. As far as leaking is concerned between two metal to metal parts, consider a flared brake line fitting. They operate at several thousand psi and don't leak.

Hope this helps,

Chris
