I replaced the fuel gauge sending unit on my '95 Ram at 44,000 miles. The first sending unit on the '01 Ram died at 47,000 miles and now the new one is dead at 87,000 miles. I purchased a new Mopar sending unit, took it apart. While apart it has been modified so that it now pivots on ball bearings instead of plastic / plastic wear. I think my new, redesigned sending unit will be far better than the stock one.

OK, so what did you do to it?

There is a thread about rebuilding the fuel canister with stainless steel nuts and bolts, CNC fittings in the top, and rebuilding the pickup tube.

The part of my fuel sending module which contains the ports for suction and return lines is rotted. The dealer only sells the whole thing for 300. 00 bucks. I'm trying to find the described thread, but no luck. Does it describe replacing this part as well?
