Hi Men & Women:

I have an issue with a fuel leak I could sure use some assistance with. If my truck sites for over 8-10 hours it looses its' prime and the system needs to be pupmed up. While running I am loosing a steady drip of fuel that appears to be coming from the promer button area. When I start to pump the primer and bring fuel into the lines the rubber boot over the button gets very slippery on the inside. It usually takes about 70-80 pumps to recharge the prime to the point that the button is to hard to press any more. From there I ahve to turn the engine over bring the line presure upto running PSI. Can someone please tell me what is involved to R&R that lift pump and maybe what a new pump might cost.

The Brake issue I am having is when I release my E-Brake, the brake light stays on and also the ABS light comes on.

The primer button has a big O-ring that is prone to failure. Remove the button. Be careful, because it's plastic. You can remove it without removing the lift pump. The O-ring costs about 50 cents at NAPA. Take the old one in and get the closest match from their O-ring box.

The pump is not too hard to remove and replace. I have done mine and would advise you to replace the attachment bolts with studs and nuts. That makes the pump much easier to re-install.

The pump can probably be repaired with new O rings.

The resident expert on the fuel system is Joe G.

He has written a comprehensive description of the fuel system and the lift pump and would be well worth your time to get one from him.

A new lift pump would probably run well in excess of $100 and most of them that have been replaced really didn't need to be, mine included.

Look for one of his posts about fuel systems. He will probably be glad to e-mail you his write-up.

Can't help you on the brake light problem. Probably has to do with the E-brake controls. I use an exhaust brake but it is not associated with the vehicle brakes in any way.

Thanks for the help. The E-Brake I am talking about is the Emergency Brake not Exhaust.

I will try to get the button of and replace the O-Ring and see what happens from there.

Thanks

Edward

The problem with your PARKING brake is most likely the ABS if that light is on also. If it is not then check to see that the switch on the parking break module is not bent or broken. If it is then you may have to replace it.
