Here is the latest update as to my Ram fuel/oil dilution and poor mileage problem as of 5-25-016.
After months of the dealer downloading information off my 2015 Ram 4x4 crew cab Laramie Eco Diesel, my self-taking oil samples and supplying the results to local dealer, the local dealer took two samples, one was lost the other didn’t contain enough oil for the fuel/oil dilution test. Correspondence with others about the fuel dilution problem I’m having, FMC came up with what was causing the problem and their solution to it. According to the local dealer FMC has determined my type of driving is not for this diesel type vehicle. They say I have a min of 22 mph average and a max of 30 mph average, which is not enough to keep the fuel burned off in this engine. Wish I had known that up front before buying it, but then my driving style on this vehicle is no different than any of the diesel or gas vehicles I’ve owned over the last 58 years with not one problem like this, is this the new technology?
NOTE, I checked with two other Eco Diesels in the area. Their instrument dash read out showed an average 27 mph with 30,000 miles on one vehicle-same type of driving as mine. The other vehicle is a salesman’s vehicle it showed an average 40 mph with 19,000 miles on the vehicle. Neither owner was aware of a fuel oil dilution problem or had taken an oil sample. The only other comparison I have at present is, other than older farm trucks and tractors, is my 2006 Duramax with 36,000 miles, showed an average 30 mph. Oil samples on this vehicle has always shown less than 1% fuel dilution. Of course I understand the Duramax and Ram might not be really comparing apples to apples, but it is what I have facts on. Interesting that the day I picked up my Ram from the dealer and headed home the engine in regeneration warning came on. First time I have had that. Of course I continued to drive it, as noted in the owner’s manual and instructed by the dealer, until the regeneration cycle was over, approx. 20 minutes.
Next day the Ram Customer Assistance Center case manager contacted me by phone. We talked about the findings from the local dealer and FMC. I expressed disaffection with the fuel/oil dilution and that FMC had a problem that they not only aware that it existed until recently but as of yet had not come up with a better solution other than go to a higher viscosity basted oil. Of course the decision was out of his hand but he wanted to know if I would accept 4 oil changes per year for the next 3 year.
Of course I accepted the offer.
Hope this helps anyone else that might have had this problem with their Eco Diesel. It is going to be interesting as to what comes about with the fuel/oil dilution over the next 3 years while I’m using up their oil changes.
As of this post fuel mileage, best 27 mpg on 500 mile runs, worst 17 mpg around town and 40-60 mile runs, average 22.4 mpg.

Yes the diesel engines have changed since 2006. They have EGR, Diesel particle filters, regeneration, diesel emission fluid (urea).
Don't know about the newer diesels but the older diesels 2007 to 20012 had to be run on the highway at least once a week to get the regeneration going.
Have you noticed the engine going into regeneration before the trip to the dealer.
Running around town should cause it to go into regeneration a lot.
The regeneration consist of the computer injecting fuel into the cylinders during the exhaust stroke. Some fuel gets by the rings and gets into the oil.

The day I picked it up from the dealer is the first time I've seen the message on the instrument panel that it was in regeneration. Never seen that until then. Again I make a weekly run of 240 miles round trip with a 3 hour stop in the middle, rest of the time it is 60-85 mph.

In your first thread you were getting 27 mpg on the highway. That is about what I'm hearing from eco owners here in FL. I'm being told they are getting 27 to 28 mpg. MPG will be less in the city at low mph.

That was what I was getting until I hit the 10,000 mile mark. Right now today, 17.8 is the best for the last tank of fuel- highway and city driving, having 31,000+ miles on the vehicle today. Fuel dilution is still a problem but they are taking care of that with 3,000 mile oil changes on their nickel for the next 36,000 miles or 3 years. They have a problem with this engine and I think they don't know what to do about the difference in fuel economy being a great span and fuel dilution in the oil going upwards of 5% on this unit. Can't find anyone who has done any oil samples on their vehicle to compare with. Don't see where changing to the 5-40 oil has done anything except I have higher oil pressure, going up to 68 psi. I know the unit will and did 29.8 for the first 10,000 miles. That is when they did the down load to keep hackers from taking control of the vehicle, they claim that didn't have anything to do with it. I asked them to undo it, put it back as it was, but won't.

I think I am having the same thing as you .the first 10,000 miles was Awesome average as 27 or better .The Next 10,000 was 19 same with the next 10,000 I am due for oil change and will do a sample on this run and go from there.

What I did not say is They have our Jeep listed as a V6 gas engine or maybe that is just normal but at the 10,000 mile mark I asked them about being sure they put correct oil in the engine and their reply was if they put a wrong oil the check engine light would come on . ?

They were either kidding or incompetent.

Well I jumped them about the Oil and that's what they told me . check engine light would come on if wrong oil was used . I just think they were Full of You know What.

They are probably thinking every engine is like a Hemi, that will throw a P1521 if you put in the wrong viscosity oil. It happens more often than you think on the Hemi. That is why they might have assumed it was on every engine.
