Fuel Pressure Gauge Suggestions

I am going to be adding gauges soon, and was set on the VDO's for Boost and Pyro, but VDO does not make a fuel pressure gauge. I am at the point now of thinking that fuel pressure is more critical than boost or pyro, at least for us stockers. (Just reading the lift and injection pump failure posts makes me cringe) Would really like to have a set of three matching gauges. Will be buying a 3 gauge pillar mount, and I can't think of anything more important than a fuel pressure gauge to stuff into that 3rd hole.

I have thought of the SPA digital, but I did not see a dual fuel pressure gauge listed. A pre and post fuel filter pressure reading on a dual display gauge would be kind of neat. .

Any thoughts from the group would be appreciated.

I do not believe that SPA makes a dual gauge that is labled as fuel press/fuel press. I believe the gauge that everyone is using for pre and post fuel pressure is actually their dual pressure (brake bias) gauge. The part number for that gauge is DG-105. They do make a number of dual gauges that have fuel pressure as one of the two readouts. You can see all there gauges at http://www.spatechnique.com/instruments.html

If you decide on SPA's remember that they are dual gauges, so boost/egt is one gauge. You would only need a dual pod for this and the press/press gauge.

Shelby - I see some folks running a single guage that is switchable (in the cab) between 2 sending units (Pre and Post filter).

I installed the Autometer Ultralites. The gauges are extremely easy to read and the gauge lighting color matches the original. You use a green colored boot for this. I drilled and tapped the bango bolt which goes into the injection pump. The gauge works great!! Let me know if you need any help.

Shelby,I personally don't think pre & post filter are necessary. With just a post filter gauge and new filter you will find what your pressures run,when they start to drop it's time for a new filter. Tapping the injection pump banjo bolt is probably the best way to go,it's sturdy and the sender & wiring are out of the way for other maintenance. One thing the 24 valve has going for it is the low fuel pressure, makes it easy to find a gauge with the correct range. On a 12 valve the pressure can reach 30 psi,mine is usually 22 psi. Most gauges jump from 16 psi to 80 psi,neither range is appropriate for a 12 valve.
