fuel shut-off solenoid

Came home today and the truck wouldnt shut off. Had this problem like a month ago, and i replaced the fuel shut-off solenoid. All worked good, til now. so my guess time for another one. Is there a reason why already? And also as i read on here that volvo uses the same fuel shut-off solenoid as our truck. Does anyone know what the part number for that is, i had it before but couldnt find it now. Because i dont really feel like payin $150 again. thanxz guyz Dan

Search the 1st Gen forum for Fuel Solenoid. Someone mentioned getting their solenoid from a place in California for $ 30 . This solenoid is listed for a VW Rabbit, but it is a BOSCH just like the original equipment on our Cummins. I ordered two online from these folks in California and received them in about 5 days. I just can't remember the name of the outfit, but you can order by phone or online. They are good folks to deal with. They mistakingly put some Porsche parts someone else had ordered in with my two solenoids. I gave them a call and they paid me to UPS the other parts back to them. Did you check the wires on the solenoid to make sure the connections are clean & tight ? If the connections are good, then it may simply be the plunger inside the solenoid hanging up. I had this problem less than 6 months after I replaced the original solenoid with a Napa solenoid. My problem was the opposite of yours - wouldn't start. Good Luck

I had a 91 that shut down intermittenly and I finally traced it to the terminal on the fuel solenoid. Had to replace the connector to fix problem. It was corroded and you couldn't clean it good enough.

Unfortunately when they go out so quickly, its your injection pump goin south. Send pieces of metal/debris out from being worn out and turned up too much- to an extent. You might end up having to join the pull cable club.

Not sure what the pull cable club is. Can the electric solenoid be replaced with somthing else?

You Can Hook Up A Cable To The Manual Shut Down Lever On The Pump. I Used A Hood Latch Release Cable From A Late 70s Toyota Pickup. It Works Great And Its About The Right Length.

If it wouldn't shut off you probably chipped the tip. Remember to pull the plunger and spring if you join the "cable club".
