As a new member with a new truck I am ignorant of many things when it comes to these diesels. Is there a general consensus out there of who makes the best gauges and is analog or digital better. Also whose pillar mounts are the best or are they specific for the gauge company that you choose.

BarryG:

Welcome to the TDR Website!

Since there were "no takers" on your
first question let me try to help you.

First of all, let me start by saying
that gauges are a "personal preference"
decision like alot of other equipment
or accessories for our Dodge CTD trucks.
You will need to "look around" at some
of the other members/friends trucks'.
Sit in the cab behind the wheel and see
if YOU like a pillar mount or a dash
mount system.

I have installed "Isspro Gauges" on a
dash mount system in my 96' Dodge. I have
the analog gauges. I tried the digital
and did not like the way they worked.
These gauges have been in my truck almost
since it was new and I have had NO PROBLEMS
with any of them (i. e. : pyrometer, boost,
transmission temp. ).

There are other TDR members who reported
not liking the "Isspro' gauges because
they could not see them at night. (lights
not bright enough). I have never had this
problem, but I have the brighter bulbs
inside mine. These gauges are reasonably
priced, they are available from alot of
the vendors in the TDR and they are easy
to find parts/replacements for.

There are other good brands that are used
by the other members. Some of these are:
DiPricol, AutoMeter, SPA. As far as "what
is the best" I really don't know as the
"Isspro's" analog/digital are the two types
I have used up to this point.

The "pillar mount vs dash mount" is
another personal preference thing. I
like the dash mount because I can easily
glance at my gauges without really taking
my eyes off the road. I have driven trucks
with the "pillar mount" and for me, it
was not comfortable. BTW, my dash mount
system is made by "Gauges Plus. "

Sorry for the length of this response.
I am sure some of the other members will
respond to your question. I wish I was
closer to you so you could drive my truck
and see for yourself.

Good luck on your decision!
I hope this has helped you some.

Barry, I totally agree... . it is a personal preference thing. For me, I dont like the column guages because they WILL cause horrible injury during an accident. I am in need of guages for my recently aquired truck and am searching for a dash pod like I had in my old 95. I cant find any vendors here that offer a dash pod, so Im going to Camping World. I cant help you with a style of guage... I suggest going to a couple TDR meetings and check out what everyone has and find what you like!

Welcome to the TDR!

I have the ISSPRO boost and pyro and am happy with them. They are not the most expensive out there, but from my experience they seem to be reasonably good quality. Right now they are mounted in a dash mount pod, but I have a pillar mount that I am going to try. I have to negotiate a parking garage daily with my truck, and it is a little annoying to have to look around the dash mount. I don't know if the pillar mount will put the guages out there in the way too, but I'll know soon enough.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Try the Auto Meter 15002 triple dash pod available from Jeg's. You can paint it to exactly match the color of your dash.

I went with the VDO's because they match the stock gauges perfectly and never had a problem with them in the past.

I had Issrpo's, I never really liked them and the boost gauge "ticked", so I gave them away and got an SPA digital boost/EGT combo. I am very happy with the digital. You can read it at a glance, it has idiot lights that you can program to go off at any point you want so you don't have to look at them, and I only have one gauge on the pillar now. I do not like the gauges on the pillar. I will buy the first mount available to integrate them into the dash.
