I don't use Amsoil, but I use synthetic and I don't pay double.....but the reason?.......I say again, because.....it's better oil.

And....kthaxton's response #2

Why in world would you pay double.

We can dance around this forever, but hell yes you think its a superior oil, you don't have to say it. :roll eyes: Action speaks louder then words.

Odd, you ask the question, but then say "you don't have to say it". Do you want the answer or not? Oh wait, you were already provided an answer.

And then....which actions speak louder than words? You've kinda got a word salad going on in that response.

people buy what they buy for a variety of reasons, some good, some bad. marketing, past practice or in my case, I like the packaging. LOL

That is so true! :D As the owner of a grocery, I've found that the product could be the absolute best in the world, but if the packaging doesn't look good, it doesn't sell.

What are you 12V98's muppet :-laf , I don't remember asking you anything. It's obvious I'm getting you riled up a bit. Calm down, it just some friendly banter on oil.

I don't care what oil you guys run, I find more humor in it then anything.

Whitewolf is likely the first person that has posted on this thread that NEEDS synthetic oil given his location and subsequent ambient temps.

Actually I did shade-tree work when I lived in central Illinois. If I remember correctly, at that time Amzoil recommended after the initial oil change, to change the filter at 6,000 miles and the oil and filter at 12,000 miles. I owned a Honda at the time and Honda had amazingly tight tolerances for the day.

Before I switched to synthetic, on a 5 qt oil change, we all used to add 4 qts of 10w-30 and 1 qt of transmission fluid. The transmission fluid kept things nice and clean and moving. That trick was taught to me by a fellow who had a Chevy Nova 6cyl with something like 150,000+ miles on it.

You obviously haven't paid attention, I get on his butt too when I disagree with him, he will tell you the same thing.

I think annoyed is a better term than riled. You're synthetic oil rants have been going on for a couple years now, it's rather annoying. You appear to not understand that synthetic oil is superior....and you won't shut up about the fact that YOU can't justify the cost. Great, you've made your point. Time to move on. Hopefully someday, you can sleep at night knowing that some people are just fine with spending extra money (of their own, mind you) on superior oil.....all while realizing you are not required to do the same.

You're like my 12 year old, he thinks being annoying is the same as being funny.

I repeat calm down, don't be so riled up ,whoops annoyed.

I know about synthetics, how could I not after listening to you on how superior it is, your words. Some buy in ,some don't.

Let me ask you a question, no let me ask for your advise, if I trade my truck every three to four years , what oil in a 6.7 Cummins would you recommend, and why, with less then 100K

It's rare I have ever asked anything from you but you have some sort of negative comment about most everything I say.

You don't buy the data that says so? You know something they don't?

Let me ask you a question, no let me ask for your advise, if I trade my truck every three to four years , what oil in a 6.7 Cummins would you recommend, and why, with less then 100K

I recommend you find the cheapest approved oil you can find.....so your OCD will let you sleep at night.

Let me ask you a question, what point are you trying to make? You've already stated, ad nauseam, synthetics are not worth it to you.....others have stated it is worth it to them. Why are you still going on about it? Nobody told you what to do.

Let me dumb it down....
Joe Blow says he likes Oil A
Cummins2014 isn't willing to pay for Oil A so he uses Oil B

Jow Blow's mention of his oil preference is no requirement for Cummins2014 to use Oil A
Cummins2014 can use Oil B to his heart's content.

No one cares what oil Cummins2014 chooses to use.
Therefore, Cummins2014 is able to use Oil B

Calm down, take a deep breath, don't worry what oil others choose to use.

Please use the most expensive super duper stuff you can buy in the unlikely event I purchase your used truck. I can't afford new :-laf

I am not the one here that needs to take a deep breath, what seven paragraphs here of ranting away. I just asked for your advice . You are letting me get under your skin, not necessary. Again calm down, this is not life or death, just a bit of banter on this winter day :)

Lets move on ,what are thoughts on oil filter change thru the fender, or taking off the turbo intake.

Thats actually a fair statement, I would never wish engine trouble on anyone. I usually don't trade my trucks, I sell them outright. I take very good care of them , low miles etc etc. I am sure with the miles I have on them , and someone switching to a synthetic, they should last many thousands of miles :D

I may of missed it ,what oil do you use :D

I believe I have you beat in terms of frugality on this oil run.....:D

My cousin was low on oil (I fill out of his drums and pay him for whatever I use, at bulk price) and was a month out on making another order. So I went shopping. Advanced Auto just so happened to have a special on Mobil Delvac 1300 at $13 per gallon. Mobil also was running an online rebate of $7 per gallon, up to 5 gallons. So I ended up buying 5 gallons for $30.

Not too shabby.

I was mocking you. You won't let it go.....not this time, nor the previous 4-5 times you went on this same diatribe.

Your tactic of appearing to be on the high road by constantly stating that you are getting under my skin isn't working. You can keep doing it if you like, but it doesn't work. Your constant bickering about a person oil choice makes it appear like others are getting under yours.

I just wonder, at which point will you feel like you got your point across? I mean, if your only point is that synthetic isn't worth it to you, you've made that point, but I could make a separate post, getting up at the pulpit of the TDR town square and let it be known to all members that you aren't willing to pay for synthetic. Would that make you happy?

Lets move on ,what are thoughts on oil filter change thru the fender, or taking off the turbo intake.

I've used both, depending on my mood. However, I intend to buy the new, Lisle (read, inexpensive) filter cap and I will likely do it through the fender from now on. We'll see. For the record, I am not interested in what method anyone else uses. My mind needs better stimulation than that.

Not too shabby at all. Same oil I used this last oil change , first different brand of oil then Rotella 15-40 in this Cummins . I have used Motorcraft 15-40 a couple times in my previous Powerstroke , other then just plain old Rotella 15-40. Other then this three times , I have ran Rotella 15/40 year around in my diesel trucks going on 21 years.

Mocking ,ranting whatever. Seriously, yes there WAS a point at one time, a long time ago at this point, but owning my part ,bantering, arguing, discussing, not letting it go, whatever, if I missed something . There is no admittance required on your part, your words speak volumes. There comes a time when you have to own your part in this.

Lets get back to the filter change, Kthaxton the Lisle filter cap is the way to go thru the fender. I do own one. May I suggest a ratchet with what I call a knuckle head on it. It makes it a bit easier to get the cap on.

See we may just agree on what is the best way for US to change the filter, now after doing so , you don't like it that way , I promise I will leave it alone ,promise :)

Maybe report back on your results, Oh!! you might want to look into Genos cap, to prevent oil spills ,pulling the filter out ,and reinstalling . That will require a bit more investment ,not quite so cheap as the Lisle. I too have one of those. Go figure I spent that kind of money :D
