Lets get back to the filter change, Kthaxton the Lisle filter cap is the way to go thru the fender. I do own one. May I suggest a ratchet with what I call a knuckle head on it. It makes it a bit easier to get the cap on.
See we may just agree on what is the best way for US to change the filter, now after doing so , you don't like it that way , I promise I will leave it alone ,promise
Maybe report back on your results, Oh!! you might want to look into Genos cap, to prevent oil spills ,pulling the filter out ,and reinstalling . That will require a bit more investment ,not quite so cheap as the Lisle. I too have one of those. Go figure I spent that kind of money![]()
I believe I have you beat in terms of frugality on this oil run.....
My cousin was low on oil (I fill out of his drums and pay him for whatever I use, at bulk price) and was a month out on making another order. So I went shopping. Advanced Auto just so happened to have a special on Mobil Delvac 1300 at $13 per gallon. Mobil also was running an online rebate of $7 per gallon, up to 5 gallons. So I ended up buying 5 gallons for $30.
Not too shabby.
Cummins 2014-
Since you have both the Lisle and Genos caps, which one do you use the most and why? I'm only getting one. I was thinking of Genos as I've never heard of Lisle until today.
how about Premium Blue for 12.99 a gallon https://www.ruralking.com/valvoline...UBe8a-9I4ETv6zTqqcJGKRfEQyu6WgGhoCmfkQAvD_BwE
hey JR,
do you have any Rural King stores near you? they by far sell oil cheaper than anyone else. 2 gallon jug of their own 15w40 is $12.99. https://www.ruralking.com/rural-kin...IcDfXtMAZFFFPxmTdX6f_GNUGJcB9x8BoC9oMQAvD_BwE
Sorry I mixed up Lisle tools ,and Genos. The Lisle tool I have is the 34900 Water sensor wrench for the rear fuel filter.
Looks like you on the left (3.42) Cummins12V98 in the middle (4.10) and me on the right (3.73)
I do not, the closet thing I have to that is a Tractor Supply. Their house brand is Traveller, which is made by Warren Oil. It has been tested extensively by PQIA and by their account is a quality oil.
I just flip my oil filter 180* and let it drain out the nice little integrated funnel Ram provided for me![]()
yeah, the Rural King oil is also made by Warren and most of them carry the correct Cummins CES certifications.... says so somewhere on the bottle. fact of the matter is Warren bottles a bunch of different labels.. but if you ever get a chance to go in a Rural King store, do it. Its a mid-western chain but they have five stores in FLA, and I happen to have one near me.. they sell synthetic gasoline engine oil for less than 10 bucks a gallon..
these are the oil filter pliers I use. made by Lisle.. View attachment 101846
Good luck getting the OEM oil filter off with those without crushing it. They still have the gorilla that installs the factory filters.
SnoKing, I'm a retired mechanic.. I been dealing with that issue for 40 years. when I bought my truck two years ago, the first thing I did when I got it home was put a strap wrench on the factory filter and loosened it up before it had a chance to weld itself on . yes, the 500 pound gorilla had installed it. I just put em on by hand anyway, that pliers is plenty good for doing my own stuff , but I have about fifteen other oil filter wrenches available if I run into the weird stuff..
