John, I guess we'll see. Tunes likely have to be removed to modify stock software, so there will be hard trouble codes set that may interfere with compleying the software updates.

Well, I'd assume software would be updated / overwritten, so those expensive "tunes" would have to be redone afterwards, (not worth it IMHO). For those who've done physical deletes, they will likely be in a different place as you have said and would probably have to pay to restore the emissions system function or take home their brick home. Either way its not a cheap proposition and here in NC, you must have recalls done when available to obtain registration. All the dealer has to do is install the campaign parts and related, if the rest of the truck doesn't work that's the customer's problem... (like steering components, they don't replace ball joints when doing a drag link as part of the recall.)

Either you do not understand tuning or you know something that I am not aware of. If so, please enlighten me.
If a truck has a stage 1 or stage 2 (deleted) one would merely change it back to the stock tune before going to the dealer for the recall. And as I said before, the dealer has to do the recall, deleted or not. When the dealer completes the recall, one just reloads his/her tune. My tuner said the recall does not require a new tune or re-tuning.

Honestly I dont care... to me its a complete waste of time and money on a modern truck. All Im saying is that the OEM program will not be happy when looking for EGR, SCR, DPF components that are no longer there... Your money spend it how you wish.

I would not start, let alone drive, a deleted truck with stock software.

If the recall involves a software flash, which it indicates it does, then the aftermarket tune will be written over. Additionally, the dealership will be able to tell at the time of the flash that the ECM has been written. It may not effect the recall, but it will likely effect any future work.

One thing we can all agree on is that it’s going to be interesting to see how the deleted trucks withstand the recall repair. I’m reading now Stallantis is predicting May before parts are available.

I called my selling dealer today to see if they had any good news on the recall on the CP4 etc. Service guy told me that the plan at this point is when the parts/kits come out, those trucks that have blown CP4's get fixed, then by year and miles. He went on to say that if you have 30K plus miles and still running would be low on the list as those with 30K are most likely going to last. He said that the pumps usually go out "while towing heavy and pulling a hill/grade"............ Gotta wonder where that info came from... ??? Anyhow, I'm at 22200 miles now still going strong.

I’m at 34,000 and running fine. Been thinking about calling the dealership to see what the scoop is at this point and if I needed to get on a waiting list. Guess I will sit tight for a while.
Thanks for posting Bug Out.

Mine is starting to have strange power surges/hesitations. Usually at the beginning of accelerating like when passing someone. Another is that MPG has taken a slight drop, nothing alarming but just saying.

Came from right here I would bet.....

The recall for 2020 trucks was released today. Parts will be in short supply for a while I'm sure, and they must be ordered by VIN so the flash is updated for the truck. Watch for a review of the procedure in Issue 117.
HO/SO different flash, or?

Everything I've read or heard says the CP4 gives no warning or indications of failing. It runs fine until it fails. If so, your symptoms are not CP4 related.

I have a friend who had similar symptoms on his VP44 ( I use to have one) and a few months later the VP44 ate itself. My issues are very slight and most don't even notice but I was a navy propulsion engineer and any change in the equipment no matter how subtle alerts my senses. I could tell when something was going to fail on a running LM2500 when others were saying all indications were fine. So any slight change I pick up on. Most machines will give a hint to the trained ear and hand of pending failure if they know what to look for. Now in my case it could be nothing but it could be something. Maybe I am over sensitive with all this CP4 talk but then again, maybe not.

The VP and the CR are very different injection systems.

The VP Injection Pump has onboard electronics that control the injection cycle. It supplies high pressure fuel in the proper sequence and at the proper time to "dumb" (mechanical) injectors that operate from pop pressure.

The CP3/CP4 High Pressure Fuel Pump is a "dumb" (mechanical) pump, no electronics. They take low pressure fuel and put out constant extremely high pressure fuel to the fuel rail which in turn supplies constant extremely high pressure fuel to electronically operated injectors that are controlled by the ECM.
