Don't bank your moves on whether or not you see someone's face, have a little more caution, and consider your possible routes in either case.
This is actually an old motorcycle rule of thumb. If I'm out on my BMW K1200GT, I try to make eye contact with the driver of every car sitting at a stop sign waiting to enter a street where I have the right of way. If I have eye contact with that driver, chances are even that he/she sees me and is not going to pull out - but don't bank on it! I've had them look straight at me and pull out!

Conversely, if I don't have eye contact with them, I assume that they don't see me and are coming out and plan accordingly! :(

Rusty

Rusty - that may be where I got that sense of paranoia or mistrust. I had a motorcycle for many years, and have had the same experiences. I'll make full eye contact with someone, and they'll pull right out, like their mind is somewhere else. At that point I guess I learned not to take anything for granted! **Always have an exit strategy!!**

I totally agree

CTait I appreciate the post, im not taking any heat what so ever, as you can see from my posts it really doesn't bother me, as all pple have their god given right to an opinion as we all do, words will never harm a man but actions thats a little different.

The reason it doesn't bother me is im a man of truth, the truth does not bother me to say no matter how it comes out, im on a roll now :-laf .

Anyways as for Lightman you have your opinion on elected officials, but as the status quo goes pple vote because thats what their families have done each generation and so forth, as for them being scum yes that is how i feel and if you were to take a poll the majority of the pple would tell you the same thing, I have voted in the past neither for one party or the other, i voted for who i thought would do the best job, on a local ballot there seems to be a little better character of person running, but once you reach house and senate and up they suck, and I think its time for alot of change if you ask me, our so called elected officials have taken our Constitution, our Judicial system and every other form of Gov't and turned it into shambles.

Our Fore Fathers are doing flips in their graves as we speak, and i agree times have changed but not to the point to where the right foot doesn't know what the left one is doing. Plus only in America does a murderer or Rapist have more rights than a honest hard working family man or woman, Prove me wrong. Okay time to go tinker on the dodge :-laf

Case in point------ The latest stupidity by some of our government officials that think it wise to take private property from those that are not so prosperous, and give it to some other private business, so that the tax base is heightened. And, so goes the American dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For you non believers, your turn , or your relatives, or your desendants, is coming. Government is no longer for the people by the people. It is for the Gov. for how much $$$$$!!!!!!!! Anyone who cannot see it has the blinders on.

the same with life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness, Lets see the one reason this country was started over here was to get away from taxes, wow! boy that didn't take long to come back.

Actually, the catalyst for the forming of the United States was "no taxation without representation". Britain wanted taxes from the colonists and wanted the colonies to be represented in the British Parliament by virtual representation, meaning a member of the Parliament would act on behalf of all the colonies. The colonists wanted actual representation, with American members in the Parliament.

How can you have a country without taxes? Taxes are a necessary evil. How are you going to pay for the roads you drive on, the schools your kids go to, etc. , etc. Can you think of a better way?

In Nevada, Las Vegas Metro and Nevada Highway Patrol have a meter to measure your tint %-you get a ticket if front windows exceed limit when stopped. Fine and removal required. A point about the fuel dipping question. In europe diesel engines are becoming popular for aircraft, europeans tax diesel cheaper than gas for airplanes like they do for autos. When the U. S. A. FAA found these aircraft engines were coming into the country, they picked a color for dying the aircraft fuel. Can you guess what color they picked without consulting D. O. T. ? Red!

whatcha think 'bout this!!!

I personally think they should only be allowed to check for offroad diesel if they pull you over for another offense... these spot checks that waste 2 hours of time are insane...

If you guys are wasting 2 hours are more for random *red* fuel checks---what do you think it'd be worth to see the troopers face when he does his analysis on your rig and sees two tanks, two fuel systems an over powered alternator and a hotwater heating element welded into the second tank. the pic would be worth a thousand words. instead of being aggravated by these searches you would sit back and smile; knowing that you could beat any charge he could write for untaxed diesel. plus you could make up your lost time with any warning citations they might write for lack of better grounds---LIMO TINT

for those of you who are a little behind and/or are tired of paying 2. 50 gallon +/- for diesel, I'm talking about SVO. Instead of being aggravated by their inspections start a pool at work to see how long it takes them to find out about straight vegtable oil running in a diesel. (win some money for the time lost at work anyway. )

I don't have any problems with any tickets I get for breaking the law. I guess you could say I take responsibility for my actions . What really ticks me off is when they pull me into the weigh station and procede to waste an hour of my time to spend 10 minutes running my liscence, registration, and 10 minutes inspecting my truck and putting a sticker on it!! The last time I walked into the weight station I saw the creepers and the coverall on the officers. I thought, oh boy here we go. Then the officer that was supposed to be processing me, wanted to talk to his buddy about his new patrol car! Oh yeah, they found nothing wrong with my truck or my paperwork. This was with my brand new 2000 miles on the odometer F650 service truck. After almost one hour, I got to go to my job that the customer was waiting on me for.

Two hours to check your tint, dip your tank, and give you a ticket is unexusable. That should have taken 10-15 minutes and sent you on your way. When they pull you in and purposely waste your time, that is wrong. If they had so many trucks pulled in already it took 1. 5 hrs to get to you, they should not have pulled you in.

My father some how does not get hasseled by the officers, and he is not "nice" to them. I dunno how he gets away with it, but I suppose in the last 15 years of driving semi, he has only got a couple fix it tickets, and a couple of overweight fines. When you load grain into a hopper bottom trailer off the farm, you can't be perfect all the time.

If an individual had ever been in the shoes of a law enforcement officer and had to approach a vehicle after a stop without being able to see how many individuals are in the vehicle and what they're doing, the application and enforcement of window tint laws would be absolutely obvious. :(

Rusty

I don't buy that crap, in fact, I'm friends with a few CHP's who have limo tint on their own cars. Heck, have you ever walked up next to a dodge van? The window are so small, tint or no tint you can't see in.

In Arizona, the cop cars all have tinted windows, same with Nevada. ivory Tower syndrome?

Its not the taxes I mind paying, its the moronic mentality of the politicians that spend spend spend without using thier brains. The money spent in our wonderful state of California is amazing. I just read that the newly redesigned City of Los Angeles building's underground fuel tanks that cost 3 million to install, has to be removed at a cost of $2 million since the tanks are not needed. Wasting $5 million for a stupid mistake.

i plan on getting dark window tint. i think that if i see a cop along the road or ever get stopped, i will just roll the windows down... . if you go by the cop with your windows down, and he comes to you with them down, he prob. wouldnt say "excuse me, could you roll your windows up please"...

Being self employed and paying my taxes heck I would run red fuel in my electric car if I could. As far as DOT I have been pulled over 4 times in 1 week by the same cop whith no tickets. You cant convince me its OK to be harrassed as they dont always know your situation. I think they should have to visualy see something before even thinking about looking at what they cant see.

Can I introduce you to the family of a slain Texas Highway Patrolman who walked up to a car after a traffic stop and had the driver empty his pistol into the officer through the window, then get out of the car, take the Highway Patrolman's weapon and empty it into him as well? This officer worked with my stepbrother who was a Highway Patrolman stationed in Pecos, TX at the time. The situation is, unfortunately, not that uncommon.

Sorry to hear of the situation, but what is the point? You didn't mention if the windows were tinted, and if so, why didn't the officer handle it as a felony stop if in fact he couldn't see the occupants inside. There is no law preventing dark tint to rear windows or side windows, so even if it was legally tinted, the above could have happened. In fact, shooting happen at cops without window tinting in our state all the time.

Pecos? figures.

Has anyone tried to fight this? I'm not trying to be an armchair lawyer, but don't they need a search warrant unless evidence is plainly visible (such as a red streak down the side of your truck).

-Vic

They don't need proof here in Georgia. They can and will check your truck for the offroad. Usually, it's a cursory "take the cap off and look" rather than dip.

The DOT is like the Game Wardens. They don't need reasonable cause to board and inspect a boat.

Well, RACE427, there are taxes being planned right now for those electric & dual fuel vehicles.

And WyattEarp, the money form the lotto here in VA is supposed to be for education only... but we know where that goes.

MMeier... why is your 03 dually considered a commercial tractor ?? makes me ownder if my 97 is too.

this is just the typical type of bureaucratic bullying, abuse of power & government intrusion/trespass into my life & personal property i resent & despise. who in the hell gives them the right to arbitrarily check my truck for anything & what's their probable cause other than needing their pathetic, overly self-important, self righteous egos stroked by pushing their authority around and intimidating the very people paying their salaries. if this is what they resort to in order to collect a government check then there's obviously too many of these bottom feeders earning a living sucking up our tax dollars. what if i don't let them stick my tank regardless if i'm on private or public property??????????????? what are they and what can they do to me???????? this is the very same crap that got randy weaver's wife shot in the head while holding her child. government like this is scary government and maybe a few of us need to show our balls & refuse having our tanks sticked. i run regular pump fuel so i'm clean & have nothing to hide, i just resent the accusation, intrusion & prohibiting me from moving about freely. it reminds me of those old wwii b&w movies where there gestapo surrounds a suspect at a train depot asking to see "their papers". i'm buying a locking gas cap just to stop this crap. they ain't sticking me & if they want in i "lost the keys". they can kiss my fat guinea *** if they think i'm taking this laying down & will fold like a cheap camera & let them push me around. they can take their tank sticking stick and ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... sorry for the rant but i just really have a problem with abusive government thinking they can do as they please till challenged. well i'm laying down the challenge, come & try sticking my tank and see who's still able to eat corn on the cob. i don't let my wife drive my truck, one of those civil service test-takers isn't touching it. come on guys, draw the line in the stand & stick up for yourselves. this is crap.
