01 3500 4x4, 4. 10, 6spd,ext cab, 4 wheel disc, jacobs exhaust brake. Alcoa rims, new BFG tires. Heated leather seats. Dash isnt cracked either! Dual disk south bend clutch installed recent. Has air dog lift pump, but only has the low pressure warning light. Has b&w turnover gooseneck gitch, and titan class V rear hitch. I think Im gonna pull the radiatior and pressure wash it, it still has the puke bottle on it, I have never seen one before, rad. looks pretty caked with oil. Not a speck of rust on it, sharp truck. Steering is decent, kinda sloppy, not as nice as when I finished my 99. Thats gonna be my first project to tackle, where should I start?Has new tie rods, ball joints, new moog track bar. Was thinking of maybe getting the steering stabilizer from genos to start out and go from there, If I have to Ill shell out the money for a borgeson gear box. Also, havent really looked too much at it yet, but didnt notice a spot on top of the fuel filter canister to put the electric sender for a fuel pressure gauge? I think I want a gauge instead of just a warning light. The cubby hole I had my westach mounted is filled with the seat heater button. Glad to be back in a 2nd gen!

In 2000 they switched up the fuel canisters, I think you will have to install a tee inline between the filter housing and vp for a gauge. Supposedly the 00-02 canisters had a higher flow rate, but the ports on the earlier models sure are nice. Post up some pics! And congrats, it sounds like a real nice truck.

Don't overlook Geno's banjo bolt fitting. Just pull your bolt on your fuel canister, and it will replace it with a drilled and tapped pipe fitting on top you can put your sending unit for your guage in... Easy, reasonably priced simplicity. Nothing wrong with the light, though. It'll still tell you there is a problem, as long as it's working properly.

On the frontend, get a pen and notepad, get someone to help, and have them steer it side to side while you're under there, and write down all the loose parts..... Probably tracking bar, one or two tie-rod ends, and the steering box. Congrats on the new ride.

You must have bought that truck on Craigslist..... the black 01' from Carlisle, Pa? He was talking about selling it for the last 3 days on Facebook. I looked at it too... . very nice rig! Kyle is a good kid!

Thanks, I will look into the canister top. AClayton, yeah, it was the one from Carlisle. Kyle and his dad seemed like great guys. Its got 178k on it, which is 22k less than I had on my 99, I'm hoping this will be the last truck Ill own for a long time. I put my steel bumper on it lastnight, going to order the black sport grill for it too. It had a bunch of decals on it I took off, probably going to take the factory emblems off as well, I like a clean look.

Also, my seater heater doesnt work, the light flashes and goes out, and passenger side lumbar support only goes out, it wont retract. How big a deal is it to fix this?

Hey it's Kyle! I have the 4wd knob, exhaust hanger, and paper work we forgot, Ill mail it to you if you'd like, I think I might of found me another good truck today to 06 mega cab 6spd so I can quit missin your new 01 haha

Hey! no rush for that stuff, we can catch up sometime, Ill get that exhaust tip to you too. Thats awesome you joined TDR, youll find its a wealth of knowledge, saved me alot of money researching and doing my own repairs. Been driving it a fair amount, went to martinsburg wv to get a toolbox today. First big project im going to tackle is steering. I know I can get it handling real good, did it once on my 99, itll be fun to work on. Gonna start with lukes links tie rods, either 3rd gen track bar or thuren, tighten the gear box up, and if it fails get a borgeson box/shaft. Overall im real excited with it. Hope you get that 06. Didnt know you shot a hoyt, wont hold that aginst you, haha,(got several mathews)if you go to any 3d shoots around let me know

getting ready for title game and got on computer to order parts from genos, gonna rebuild all four tie rods, I will check control arm bushings too. I went over a few hills and noticed a knock, thinking its trackbar hitting frame, dont have anybody around to turn wheel for me so I can check for stuff thats loose(cant wait to move from here!)I did take a pair of big channel locks and found play in a couple tie rods though. Im gonna tighten up the setscrew on the gear box too, seems like there is a lot of play in it when i turn the wheel with truck off, thinking I will need a new steering gear too, but oh well, its worth it.

Unless you have help when you turn the wheel you can't determine where the slack is. I would not adjust the setscrew without removing the pitman arm, that way you can make sure of preload from lock to lock. The gears will always be slightly loose when you are dead ahead center. If you snug it up in this position it will be too tight when you turn. Too tight is worse than too loose. I like your new truck:)

Hey!!?!? I didn't say how nice it looked, sorry!! Very nice!! I like it. You can reach up from the ground and turn the steering shaft by hand, if you're a sasquatch like me..... while laying under truck to see what all is wrong with it. Just takes a little time, so don't get frustrated with it..... but if you do, there's a good market here in Texas..... :D

Thanks for the compliments. I was careful to not overtighten the box, never thought of preload and gears binding, makes sense, thanks. Been working on it all friday night and most of saturday

-rebuilt all four tie rods with lukes links

-pulled radiator and pressure washed, it was nasty, worst Ive seen

-extended the puke tube

-made adjustments to steering gear

-detailed motor and whole underneath of the truck

-changed oil,filters,fuel,air etc.

-put black grill on, looks mean

Starting to feel like mine now. Steering has improved a lot with just the minor stuff ive done, still not as good as the old 99 yet. The sway bar links need replaced for sure, I was thinking about the steering brace as well, had it on the 99, but is it worth it to put one a truck with the stock gearbox at 178k? Even with the less than stellar steering, really dont mind that much now that I got a shifter handle to hold onto! HHhuntitall, thanks, but n. texas is a long way to run for me!

I don't see any reason why you can't use a steering brace on an old box. It may actually help, if the bottom bushing is worn and there is play in the bottom of the box. I put them on several trucks, especially if they're used on rough roads, to help keep the bottom bushing from getting worn out from external force on the tires pressing against the steering..... And if you use it on the old box, why won't it fit on a new one if you put one on it?!?!? Don't miss the new UCC ones that Geno's is carrying. I'm not sure what they're running, but the last few I've bought were $170 wholesale, and IIRC, the ones Geno's has are cheaper than that.....
