Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Governor Lever Adjustment

I need help, fellas. With my fuel shutdown solenoid not engaged, the lever touches my plate at the bottom when the throttle is moved off idle like it should. But energizing the fuel shutdown solenoid brings the lever up to the plate with the throttle still at idle. Do I have a problem or is that how it is supposed to work? TIA

I'll tell you if you tell me what TIA is? When I set the arm to my plates I set it nose to nose, then I heard about the fuel on off thing here and tried that and there was no difference.

Holding the solenoid lever up by hand (key off) and then slightly moving the bell crank (throttle lever) will allow you view where the lever will ride/touch. This is necessary as the rocker arm sometimes will almost touch (so you can compare your reading to Pier's instructions) but starts moving back towards the firewall as the "breakover" occurs. Does this help? Hope so. .

I'm trying to remember the internal guts cause it's been a while since my plate went in. Looking at Piers' cut-away, it looks like you should be able to see it from the top, but have to adjust it from the back. Is that right?

I wound up adjusting mine about half way up to the nose. Made a big difference in the way it powers up. Much smoother now even though mine wasn't getting hung under the plate as it was.

It is hard to do the adjustment and real easy to get into trouble if you don't get it right. I have not readjusted the lever on my truck, fwiw [for what it's worth].

Thanks for all your replies. Since the lever touches the plate correctly with or without the solenoid energized, I should be OK.

And when you pull out the 10mm socket, be careful that it doesn't pop off the end of the extension & drop down into the bottom of the pump. :{



It takes a magnet on a flex shaft & some probing, worrying, words ...
