Rebel, I'm theifing the smileys I use from a thread on www.glocktalk.com This one to be exact: Smiley thread I just right-click on the smiley, hit properties, find it's URL, copy and paste as an image here. The URL is from some other site, it's just that some of the best ones are on that thread at Glcoktalk, so I use them.

Lightman, 1000 yds is not my fortay (sp?) either... yet! My longest confirmed kill is a little over 350 yds on a rockchuck w/ my . 22-250. Course, I haven't been out prairie-doggin' yet, but when I do, I'll be going for the 500 yd. club with my . 223 and . 22-250.

Am not 21 as of yet (January, thank God) so I don't have a handgun. When I turn 21 (in January... can you tell I'm excited?) I'm going to take a CCW course and purchase a Glock 36. I always told myself I'd never own a Glock, 'cause every punk kid wants a Glock. Then I discovered that beings how I'm left eye dominant and shoot left handed (I'm actually right handed, but was switched to shooting left handed when I was 6) that the only pistols I can easily manipulate with my left hand are Glocks. All 1911's are almost impossible for me due to the location of releases and safetys. I'd love a Kimber 1911, but just can't work the stuff on them.

Look, the thread went from :-{} to #ad
and #ad

:D

HAHA, I do take a lot of crap from people when I tell them I bought a Glock, usually referring to some rap music or something. I just got one because they are known to be incredibly reliable, and go boom when you need them to. I am also left eye dominant, and finished my CCW course last week! Fun stuff. :D

Firearms... bringing men together since who knows when. I'm going to theif some of the smileys too. I have the same problem. right handed, left eye dominant. I've just taught myself how to shoot righ thanded. I had a Ruger 9mm (yeah I know. . it was a pahase). Hoping to get another pistol soon, and I'm going with a . 45 this time. Hoping to get a 1911 myself, but may go with a Glock for ease of maintainence and ultimate durability. who knows.

Well, I got switched to shooting with my left when I was young, because I started shooting a bow. I've never killed a big game animal with a rifle, and never will. Deer, elk, bear, whatever else is all hunted with a bow in my family (and basically everybody around where I was raised bow hunts, mainly due to my Grandfather taking just about anyone he could under his wing and teaching them to bow hunt when he learned, and they've all passed it down their bloodlines). I have my two rifles for coyotes and other varmints. They're strictly accuracy/bench type rifles, and were built just for that purpose. Not saying I don't like rifles for big game, just not my thing... I love being in close and flingin'-sticks!

I want to start bowhunting so frikkin bad I can taste it. Just can't afford the expense, and don't have anyone that can show me what I need. I've heard it's a blast.

The pain that never stops is killing 7 deer in 6 years with my bow (one every year and two one year since I was 12) and then having to stop cold turkey in August 2001 because I had to come down to Arizona for school. Has been 3 years now since I've drawn my bow on an animal (although my younger cousin used my bow last year and killed a buck with it). I did get to go elk hunting with my Grandfather down here this fall though, but I was johnny-follow-with-the-camera and not packin' a bow. He killed a little 3-point bull 20 minutes before close of season just to have some meat for the freezer. I got to see one dandy 6 point and two smaller 6-points while there with him, and have video of all three, but not uploadable till I get home at x-mas time. I'm going to put in for the same area he was in next year and hopefully get my first bull-elk under my belt. Only a little over an hour drive from where I am so I'll be able to hunt 3 weekends while in school... . well worth the $500 if you ask me.

Hmmm... . wonder when my priorities will change from pickup/hunting/toys to other things? Probably never if the $$$ allows for it... hope I find myself an understanding spouse. ;)

You should be able to get an ambidextrous safety/mag release for a 1911. There are lots of aftermarket parts for 1911s, as they've been around since, um, 1911. :D Kimber's one of the best manufacturers--you could probably get one from the factory set up for lefties.

Anyway, Glocks are certainly reliable (as I recall, something like 70--80% of the U. S. police force carries them), and my P226 is a joy to shoot. But if I had to choose one, I'd grab my Springfield and leave the Sig without a second thought. (Actually, I'd grab the 870 first--12 ga. always wins ;) ).

Anyway, there are certainly plenty of pistols chambered in . 45ACP, but the 1911 is the _right_ way to do it.

Kinda like diesels and inline...

tbrudder, that is probably true that I could have a 1911 built to suit my needs, but right now I'm looking to get something simple and reliable that I don't have to mess with and won't worry about banging up. My first pistol will be my beater/carry gun. If it gets a nick, scratch, banged around, I'm not going to cry over it. If I had a Kimber and it got scratched, I'd probably throw a tizzy fit! ;) Of course there is always the cost factor too... Kimber is quite the price jump from the G-36 I want. But then again, I'm going to put extensions and a good set of night-sites on the Glock, so then we're getting closer to the price of the Kimber I want. :)

As my old-man would tell me... "Want in one hand, **** in the other!"

What would we do without our sane addictions? If I spent as much on drugs as I do on my other hobbies I'd be known by every crack-dealer up and down the west coast.

OH Yea 1911 in 45 super. Hogs don't like the inpact factor but sure taste good!

Glad every one is getting along:D maybe you two should hook up and go hunting (Lightman, Rebel). I guarentee you will become friends.

Nothing like sharing a kill!

Mike

Just think of the fun you could have turning in the rude driver. or that girl in the lane next to you that won't give you the time of day... ... ... #ad

I have to agree with the person who said keep the smoke on the track and off Main Street. Diesl technology has come too far for us to be smoking all over the place. Granted, it is fun to blow a big cloud of smoke into the window of the teeny-bopper with his thumping bass stereo, but it only gives the greenie, enviro nazis more to whine about. And he who whines first and loudest gets his way.

Rebel and Lightman-

You'd both do well to learn about the other's point of view. I have the rare case of growing up on a farm with cattle and row crops, and have also decided there isnt NEAR enough money in the end for me to want to make a living out of it, especially after 80 hour weeks all summer. I also went to Mizzou on a ROTC scholarship, (got straight As in high school without ever cracking a book), got a 32 or 33 on the ACT. But i had never had to study and was SCREWED in college. Dropped out a straight C student after 2 years. I have lived in town with townie jobs, and it is no picnic, but i think bigger towns hold a lot more econimic opportunity than smaller communities. It just all depends on your priorities. I grew up dirt broke, Mom decided to be home my enitre life and scrape by instead of setting some kind of example for a work ethic. Hence, I am a little more focused on the economics of life, and having something to show for a life of hard work, as opposed to having a loving family or spouse and "livin on love. " Starve that way.

Your point of view isnt always right. Isnt always wrong, either. Not ALL city folk are prissy panty-waists, just like not ALL country people are uneducated, grungy, backwards rednecks. Working 80 hours a week does no more to make one a man than knowing martial arts (I'm not even going to try to butcher the one aforementioned). Neither makes you a man in and of itself. Manhood is determined by character and maturity- keeping your word, following through with things, possessing honor and dignity in what you do, admitting when you're wrong or have made a mistake. I've known 16 year-olds who were greater men than some 50 year- olds.

snowracer, i hunt prairie dogs all the time. Kemmerer WY has a large population and well we slam them whenever we can. My longest confirmed kill is at 468 yards with my 22-250. I took half a box of shells, 22-250 is a great "short" range rifle but for longer distances you need bigger calibers.

The wind just blows that 55 grainer around. I'm not saying that 500 yards isn't doable but its sure hard. I'm confident to 350 without missing, but any farther and well i have to lob a few out there first to range it.

The big problem with long ranges is the powder needed to push the bullet, it starts hurting after a while.

I easily drop 100 rounds when i go doggin, sometimes more. If i were to be using a 300 mag man that'd kill my shoulder an be expensive to load to boot.

I would like to try . 308 caliber and see how those do. I just dumped 1600 bucks on my 22-250 setup... my wife would be very angry if i told her i needed another one.

If you want 1000 yard shots get a . 50 cal... not a problem and really doesn't kick that hard either. My buddy has the new 300 ultra and well i can't stand it. What a worthless cartridge. It kicks so damn hard after 3-4 shots your bruised and your ego is hammered. Power is nice but c'mon those are getting rediculous.

Has this been hijacked into a gun thread, i love guns!!!

I have a . 308 and love it. No bruised shoulder and it's actually fun to squeeze off multiple rounds. It's had some trigger work and has been floated. Other than that nothing fancy. Mine doesn't have the white feather on it a. k. a Carlos Hathkock special edition but it gets the job done. :D

Dpuckett we're over it (at least in my book), but thanks for the words. Interesting story of yours. I focused more on the SAT, but got your same score on the ACT and had similar problems when I got to Vanderbilt. My high school simply wasn't very good and I wasn't as prepared as the 'prep school' kids that went to andover, etc. I guess we differ in the fact that I stuck with it, and busted my butt for a while, and came out just fine with my degree.

This has certainly become a thread 'hijacked by guns' pun intended, har dee har harr. Oh well... . I'm not sure there was really much more to discuss in regards to the letter or the smoke... Unless SEmerson has anything to add about it.

SEmerson, girls that wont give you the time of day? What the heck is that:confused: :D Sadly, it does have to do sometimes with what you're driving. A lot of times I'd check out girls when in my Jetta TDI, they'd look away or act snotty because they were in a bmw, like that made them 'better' or something  Then pull up next to the same girl in the Benz and they're all eyes... . oh well, I dont want that type of girl anyway, but at least all those $'s spent on the benz are worth somethin! ;)

Yeah it's all good. Firearms are definitely a blessing. I never took the SAT's. The high school I went to had us take the ACT's which re very popular in my area. I think I ended up with a 32 or 31 on mine but that was about 7 years ago. Holy crap that was 7 years ago. :{ Anyway, where I live right now I get the same treatment from the hookers... I mean girls. They drive the little BMW's and look up at me in my big ol loud diesel and turn their nose up. That's really not that bad a deal though, cause I'm not interested in most of em anyway. I'd rather have a girl that wants to go mud riding on the 4-wheelers or sit by the river at night, or go to a roping or something. Now that's my type. If the horse trailer's a rockin don't come a knockin! :-laf ;) :p

PS Yes I know I'm a redneck and you know, now that I think about it... it's a good thing. LOL!

I've never been offended by the word redneck although I'm actually an Ozarks Hillbilly. I can't help it that I have to sit in an office during the week to pay for my horses, mules, guns, and other toys. Check out the Wifes cousins at their website for a better idea. www.bigsmithband.com Rebel they play down in Arkansas quite a bit. Open their webpage and scroll down to the bottom where you can listen to samples. They have some neat stuff and have several albums out. They play at Chesters in Fayetteville a lot.

I went to go shooting last night and the range was closed temporarily. Apparently they had some kind of bee hive discovered in the range earlier. Someone shot it, and the bees went crazy! When I walked in there was a guy in a full protective suit. I'm like what are they doing, testing chemical weapons? Then I saw the sprayer and asked. Pretty funny. Nothing an hour and a half at Bonefish happy hour didn't cure. I came back and was the only one there.

Anyone know if civilians ever have access to those cool ranges like FBI or Police have with the moving targets and the kids/women that pop up? Those look like so much fun.

Rebel, its a funny thing how the type of vehicle you drive affects those types of girls. As I said, they all stare and smile when I'm in the MB, and I dont expect the same in the Cummins. You're right in saying they aren't worth a damn if that's their criteria for attraction. Nothing turns them on like money unfortunately. I've had quite a few of those types, and they sure look great on your arm at a party, but at the end of the day, I'd also like the girl that will ride out on my ATV with me, drink a beer, and just be down to earth. I can only handle so many wine tastings, theater events, and posh (read=snooty) parties before I've had enough. I guess to each their own, but that's not my style either. (surprising for a city boy!:-laf )

AMEN TO THAT lightman! Can't stand the stuck up ones. The way I see it, they wouldn't be able to hang with me anyhow. It's like you said, they make good trophies, but when the rubber meets the road (or meets anything else for that matter ;)) it isn't that wonderful.

As a civilian I can tell you this about the gun ranges. My dad is a retired sheriff (not THE sheriff but second in command) and now he's a deputy US Marshall. I've been to the sheriff's office range several times, but I haven't managed to get to go to one of the big boy's playgrounds... . still working on it though. I think it takes connections and then you might get access (supervised of course) on an off day or something.

I just wasnt grown up enough to make it on my own, at least not on a 20000 student campus. Had I been allowed to live off campus, and gotten off my lazy butt and got a job, I may have done better. I may go back someday and finish, just to say I can do it. But my cousin just graduated, and he's having trouble finding a job in his field. I forget what he majored in, but it isnt anything too off the wall.

Rebel, I agree with you about the women; though most of them dont even make a decent trophy; they cant handle the hard work, smoke, and smell of livestock. I'd much rather have a woman who will work with me to get where we want to be than just a good looker that wants me to support her. Granted, looks are a plus, but they all look the same in the dark

Glad to hear you worked out your differnces.
