A CUMMINS POWERED DODGE!!!

The farming family I grew up with as a kid in the hot summers years ago in Iowa never had new trucks the whole 4 or 5 summers I went there. They had an old Chevy dually 454.

We moved out here to Colorado 7. 5 years ago and only got to see them once in a while. The year we moved out they bought a V10 powered F-450 stake bed and sold the Chevy and I saw it when I went back to visit.

The past 2 years I have been fortunate enough to see them when they come out for the Denver Stock Show and Rodeo. Two years ago I hooked up with the son, my age, who had time to actually visit! Him and his 11 year old (at the time) brother came out for the show and to pick up a cattle trailer that the Cole, the young one, had won in competition.

Guess what they showed up in? A 98. 5 24-valve regular cab dually auto. Sweet! Well, on the way back the auto crapped out on them. That was the second time since they had bought it.

Saw them all again yesterday, and their father, Ralph, who I hadn't seen since we moved. We caught up, they told me about their new barn, new mower, etc. I asked if they had any new trucks.

Ralph says, "Yeah, sold the Dodge to Ben (the guy my age), and we bought an 03. "

I'm thinking, oh, you had such bad luck with the auto Dodge, you probably bought a 6 liter.

He says, "Yeah, its a 5-speed, one-ton with a flat bed, Dodge with a Cummins".

Nice truck too! Flat bed reg cab dually, nice trailer to go with it. Too bad the road crew had white paint that splashed all over the front of that pretty black truck!

It was nice to see them again, and nice to see they made a wise decision ;)

Dang, those are some perspicuous folks you hang with! Soon enough they will be upgrading to a quad. ;) :-laf :-laf

Yeah, it was funny trying to watch 4 of em squeeze into the truck after the show to go back to their hotel!

They said it was repainted and got $10,000 off sticker price! Can't beat that!

They, as well as my family, are from Muscatine. It's on the Mississippi SW of the Quad Cities on the far eastern border.

I lived in the stockton and Durant area for a while. Just moved down here last march. I make it up to Muscatine/Davenport about once a month. One of my good friend/coworker lives in Muscatine.

They farm, do they have any Cat equipment? They need a challenger so I can go a visit them once in a while on business. :D

No, mostly International, some Deere. I will tell them to go buy a new Cat! My aunt and uncle live in Durant, mom and Dad used to work at Bandag, then dad at Hon, then Prime Mover which was bought out by Hon. Anything special going on out there?

Oh nothing really. Just been fighting the 1/4" of ice, then the 6" of snow on top of it and then the 1/4" on top of that. Then the other day it got warm enough to melt everything a little, then got real cold to make everything a thick glaze of ice. I'm only 27 but have to walk around like I'm 97. Little old man steps. My hips hurt cause I have had to walk on the ice too long. It got up to about 30* today and I chipped up some of the ice that was a little free. Hopefully tomorrow it gets warmer.

Basically just been trying to stay warm, trying not to fall down, and trying to pay of Santa Claus.

Hey, Nick.

I'm not all that far from Muscatine myself. I have an uncle that sells cars at a dealership there in Muscatine. Don't get through there to often, but once in a while. Usually only if I go to Columbus Junction with hogs, or when I get down to Mt. Pleasant, IA.

Sweet, nice to talk to some midwesterners! I haven't been back out in years. I may take the train or hit up my Frontier Airlines buddy for a cheap ticket to go see relatives and friends.
