My truck is hard to start when i'm parked uphill with the nose. When parking downhill with the nose the truck starts fine as it always has done. This problem is worst when the engine is cold.

I'm sensing some leak in the diesel line, but where? Any recurring places to check for leaks? It's not that big it leaks diesel, but it probably sucks air whn there is no pressure...

Thanx!

There is a return line that come out of the back of the head and goes down from there. Its a rubber hose if I recall and is prone to leaking. My father had this happen and it covered the underside of his truck with diesel.

The line runs from the back of the head down and T's into the return line from the injection pump. The T leaks sometimes too. If you search for hard start in this forum you will find all kinds of posts about small air leaks and such.

Have you worked or had any thing done to your truck lately? The fuel filter o-ring can be problematic or any of the rubber hoses in the fuel system.

Good luck.

I've done some searching in the forum, but couldn't find anything about leaks. There was plenty of other reasons though...

Have done some work on my truck, but not close to when this happend, it happend when it was really cold weather this winter. I've changed the fuelfilter after it started acting up and it didn't get any better.

Where is this rubber line you are talking about? Not sure what you mean about "head"? It's not leaking any diesel on the ground so it's not a big leak I guess... .

I also have a fass system and the lines from the tank to the fuelfilter and to the vp44 is "new". Can't se any leaks there so I think you're in to something ;)

Thanx!

Follow the valve cover all the way towards the back of the truck. There is a motor lifting bracket back there. Behind that and towards the passenger side a bit there is a hose coming off the back of the head. Its just one of many possibilities. . but it has been know to go bad.

A line does not have to leak to let air in... . seems funny but it happens.

Good Luck on your search for the problem.

There is a check valve in that return line back to the tank. If its stuck open it will allow fuel to flow back to the tank . When pointing up hill fuel will flow back to the tank and leave the line empty. When pointing down hill fuel will flow towards the injection pump thus keeping the line full. Hope this helps.

Ok, thanx both! Now I have something to look for =) If it's that check valve gone bad, is it a piece that is replacebale, or do I have to change the entire line?

The o-ring in the quick connects on the lines are also notorious for leaking. They usually won't leak fuel out, but will let air in. There is one on the pressure and return side in the engine compartment. They are just like the ones on the fuel sending unit.
