When EGT's get too low

I'm not all up on the scoops here, but I've been told the new '06 duramax is claiming 650 hp and like 1000 lbs torx at rear wheels... ... any comment?? I've got to tell ya guys, I've got 200,000 on my '03 now and $11,000 in non warrantee repairs. Let's see if I can remeber right. 2 trannys, lift pump, injection pump, bent drive shaft, carrier barriing, power steering pump, ac crapped out a couple of times and I'm not even counting it BTW it's broke again too. Not real happy with Dodge anymore.

Dude the new D-Max isn't anywhere near those numbers!! More like 350-360hp at the flywheel. I am sorry to hear about your truck problems though. You really replaced an out of warranty transmission with a stock transmission? :(

I've seen the numbers (360 HP / 650 TQ SAE net) and the claim is only for the Allison transmission, which leads me to believe that the numbers may be slightly inflated (or I suppose underrated but not likely) due to there not being a true 1:1 gear ratio.

yeah bswope is right. the 06's have 2 models i saw don't know why. 1 was 310hp & 605tq the other was 360hp & 650tq with a blue allison trans badge by the 2500. both were 06's.

Stock LBZ (360/650 DMax) owners are reporting 15. 9 @ 83 in the 1/4 mile. Heck my stock 2500 Avalanche with the 496 gasser and 4L85E trans runs 16. 2@85.

The new Allison also has 6 speeds, top 2 are overdrive. 6th drops the highway cruise RPM by about 200.

If you see a new GM DMax pickup with the new badge on the door that has Allison on it, that truck has the new 6 speed Allison 1000 trans. The only way to tell if it's an LLY or LBZ is to check the 8th digit of the VIN. If it's a 1, it's the first series DMax (LB7). 2 is the LLY and D is the LBZ. Also there is a decal under the hood, on the airbox I believe, that has the HP rating on it.

The dyno numbers on the lbz sure shocked me... ... right in the 265 range @ the wheels on the couple I have seen. Don't beleive all the hype fellas... ... they sure talked it up but some how 50 flywheel horse power yeilded only an average of 7-10 rwhp over the lly.

Right off the Chevy site

For production units after Sept. 2005 with the Allison six-speed automatic transmission:

360 horsepower @ 3000 rpm

650 lb. -ft. of torque @ 1600 rpm

With the Hydra-Matic four-speed automatic transmission:

310 horsepower @ 3000 rpm

605 lb. -ft. of torque @ 1600 rpm

With the ZF six-speed manual transmission:

300 horsepower @ 3000 rpm

520 lb. -ft. of torque @ 1600 rpm

Our LBZ made 304. 5 rwhp on a dynojet with less than 300 miles on the ticker. I dynoed it in 4th, 5th and 6th gears. We use the 4th gear run in our testing.

Torque was about 550 to the tires.

The trucks run pretty good, but they make really peaky power. The truck is ok, but it always feels like the parking brake is on unless you are running above 60% throttle? Maybe it just needs to break in. I have always been a fan of the LB7 engines, but these new trucks just aren't the same. Also the manual shifting really sucks. I was disappointed in it.

I think you will see 500 rwhp out of these trucks pretty easy with intake, exhaust and electronics. We are already making lots of power with them, but we need to get a bunch more miles under our belt before we know what they are made of.

With that said our 2006 Mega Cab is absolutely the best truck I have ever owned, and I turned it into my personal truck. It has gobs of room, rides better than any big truck I have ever ridden in, runs like the wind, gets good fuel mileage considering the conditions I put it in (16. 5mpg at 85+ for 1,000 miles on average), did I mention all the room it has?

I love the new dash and whatever they did to the door panels and dash panels makes them super comfortable to ride in for extended periods of time. I even love the new headlights, they work very well suprisingly. They sure seem to really give good visibility.

So I wouldn't worry about the new duramax, it is a nice truck, but I think if Dodge stays on the track it is on now they can be unstoppable.

If you get a Chevy, it will work for you, but I think you might be a little on the disappointed side if you were to swap them out.

Just my . 02.

That's why I come to this site, cause you guys are really into this stuff and know what's going on. I thought he was full of bull, now I know. Here's my problem though. I told you guys what I put into this truck, I think I may have left out I blew a turbo also. I have 11,000 in repairs. Don't really want to deal with a new truck, I have 200,000 on this and still owe $20,000 on it. I'm figuring I can get 15,000 on trade in on a good day. Am I looking for trouble hanging on to this thing? I here this is the best time of year to buy a new truck, if I start looking I need to do it now.

Looking at the DieselPlace.com, it seems that the new LBZ engine is eating glow plugs and spitting the pieces out the turbo. Also some guys over there are mad that the new engine has not fixed the "injector" problem.

Seems like the glow-plug problem is a "wooops" in manufacturing. They have never had that happen before and seems to be something that the manufacture (parts supplier) can fix in the future production runs.
