hi guys

when i first turn on the a/c or the heater i get a blast of musty air blowing out for the first 15-20 secs. after that, no problem. is there something i can check/clean?

many thanks!

You may have some moisture that has built up in there. You need to make sure that your a/c condensor is draining properly, your right side passenger floor will be wet if it's not draining well enough. I added a hose at the firewall to the condensor drain and aimed it down by the frame. I then could use my shop vac to suck it clean out. Now I have no issues with moisture. As for the smell, spray alot of lysol into air intake outside by the windshield, make sure the a/c is not on recirculation. That should kill the mold growing in your system.

If it is like most, the system allows leaves and trash to come thru the cowl vent and collect in the bottom of the blower housing, then AC moisture wets the moldy pile of leaves and trash.

You can quickly pull the fan motor (three easy bolts) and reach in and take out the moldy stinking trash, flush it out, then put on a GENO outside filter so it don't happen again.

Most of all, that stuff down there will eat holes in your AC evaporator and then you got a REAL problem.

Not to mention your blower motor as well! I had a blob of leaves stuck on one side of the blower wheel, putting it out of balance, made a rumble vibration on high. with quite a loss of efficiency of the blower as well! Oh so easy to solve the problem.

Jeff,

The actual fix is what was mentioned by the previous posters.

Just FYI, a long time ago (like 1996) there was a TSB on this issue. I think the fix was to spray some fungicide (Lysol?) into the air intake behind the hood, but I'm not sure. Your dealer may still know about it and be able to either fix it or tell you how to do it.

Good luck,

Loren
