I know there are some of y'all who have done this conversion. . Help me out with some ideas! I need to have it all done in a week or 2 weeks time! Help!

ok, here's what happens. . In exact sequence. .

I turn the key to start the motor,

it cranks, plunger comes up as normal.

motor cranks over and begins to run, once key is let back to RUN position, plunger falls back down, shutting off fuel, killing engine.

My fix for the time being, is I removed the whole shutoff solenoid, took a piece of baling wire, wrapped it around the lever, then pulled it to front of truck, allowing the fuel to flow. On the other side, I just have the baling wire wrapped around an intercooler clamp on the intake horn. . It sounds like the solenoid to me. it is working, but not working as designed! Doh! and I have a date here in a little while. . I am trying to think of what I am going to tell her when I have to pop the hood to shut the truck off! ruh roh! my truck is ghetto!!! hahahaha

The shut off solenoid has 2 coils like a starter solenoid. The pull in coil is the one that pulls it up, the other is the hold in coil. Need to figure out why the hold-in coil won't energize.

If you still want to do it manually, if the solenoid turns out to be junk, there was someone that used a shut-off cable made for a Deere 4440 tractor. Foster Truck does sell the solenoids, I see.

Thanks MM, BMoeller;

wow, I thought there would be more people to help out on this subject. . Is it that tricky?

-Chris-

It's not so tricky but almost no one wants to convert to a cable operation. Big pain in the ... One of three things is wrong: the fusible link wire at the left battery + terminal (not likely as you get start coil to work); relay (again, probably OK) or the run solenoid coil is bad. New HD solenoid from Cummins is over $300. I found a couple brand new OEM type from synchro start, the original mfg at a much better deal.

Good luck with you truck and your date (in that order?? :D )

Thanks Joe! I got the parts from the International Dealer, though about 8" too long on the cable, but that is what good ol' Baling wire is for! we just wired the slack to work, and so far, so good!
