2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission HELP with CB antenna

Need some idea's ASAP. I am trying to get large end of coax through cab to CB. Photo's, ideas,or info would be helpful on how to do this. I have the tacky back window open trick going right now.

on mine (2001) there was a hole in the floor under the drivers seat that had a large grommet in it, I modified the grommet to fit the cable and went from there...

Best way is to remove the terminal from the end of cable going into cab(yeah, side cutters) then run it inside to where you want it then go to Radio Shack and buy a new end terminal and install. bg

Remove the high mounted brake light lens, and route it through there. Then use a round file and make a groove to allow the lens to set flat. Seal with caulk, run the rest of the coax to the CB through the doorsill. I installed mine 6 months ago, and had no trouble.

Several good ideas here, I'll tell you what I did. Mine's on my rear bumper. I knocked the aluminum plug out of the hole in the driver side floor, probably similar to what willysrule did. You can see it from underneath but not from inside the cab. I ground me a groove in it for the coax, ran the coax through the hole and under the carpet, replaced the plug with lots of silicone, and alls well. I did have to trim some type of material around the plug inside the cab to get the plug out without damaging it.

If this is *NOT* a magnent mount antenna (i. e. Wilson), but a firestick or another type that doesn't have fixed coax then you can cut the end off and reattach. However it if is a magnent mount you do not want to go that way, but the way BigPapa suggested!

My antennas are on the front bed rail. I ran my cables through the gromets on the back of the cab down at the bottom on my 02. Rear seat,seat belts and rear pillar trim must be removed. Look under the seatbelt reel and you will see a a square with what looks like spray foam in it. If you drill a hole down through there it gives access to the rear corners of the cab where the gromets are. Pop the gromet and modify it to go over the cable and fish the wire.

The cable is a fixed length on mag mounts? I didn't know that. I've cut the extra wire from those and put an end.

On Wilson Mag's it is. My local tech says your not supposed to cut the coax, as it will make it hard to get a good SWR setup.

What is the rule for setting the SWR?

If channel 1 is higher than channel 40 than I need to shorten the antenna or lengthen it? or vice versa?

I have dual Wilson Silverload antennas on my mirrors and I am running the cables around my door and doesnt look clean enough for me. I was thinking of going through the plastic part were my mirror mounts to the door. Are there any other good ideas for this set-up?

From My CB tech, if the SWR is higher on channel 1 than channel 40 then the antenna (cable, antenna, etc) needs to be longer.



From the Wilson instructions, trim 1/4" at a time and adjust.



If channel 1 is lower than channel 40 then trim





Be careful to only trim 1/4" at a time, this is a very tedious venture but if the antenna is trimmed to much you can't add to it.

I went through the big rubber grommet on the firewall. Antenna is mounted to the driver's side fender.

I'm always envisioned 2 whips on the back of the cab or front of the bed. But for sure between the cab and bed and the mount hidden and out of sight.



Or the mount molded into the body in some fashion could be trick as well.



One attenna would be for CB, the other would be for AM/FM. I'm sure the cables routed though the floor or back of cab.



Shave off that pesky ugly looking stock attenna.



Mount on roof right infront of the break light (use for acess inside! good idea!) the XM or Sirus radio attenna.
