Hitch Conversion

Am looking for some opinions. Have a 28 Ft. toy hauler and want to change the hitch from a pull trailer to a Goose Neck. Just dont like pull trailers that heavy. What to look for, that I havn"t thought of. With the trailer loaded with two Quads and wet. it must weigh 10500 or better. Should I attach the hitch to the existing hitch or extend the frame and start there? Just an idea I have. I like being differant. Of course I pull it with my 04. 5 600. Thank in advance.

I would start by wieghing the rig and finding out how much it does wiegh and decide how much a goose neck is worth to you, a goose neck is a great way to pull, but the cost of modifing the existing trailer may sting, as metal prices have risen, alot. I would look into trading, I saw a nice fully custom 20' gooseneck with less that 10,000 mile for under $10,000 on ebay. and this was a tricked out trailer

I did this conversion on a 20 ft. trailer a couple of years ago. The conversion went okay and the trailer pulled fine. The major problem is that the hitch and axle weights are all wrong. By putting on the "neck" for the king pin or goose ball, you are changing the length from axle to pin. I found that my trailer axles were overloaded and there was not enough weight on the fifth wheel. I was quite fortunate that I was able to trade the unit in on a properly built trailer. I strongly recomend selling or trading your existing unit and getting everything just right. I have all my trailers as a king pin and fifth wheel set up rather than a goose ball set up. I find this a lot easier to hook up and also does not require safety chains. The biggest draw back is that I have the fifth wheel in the bed all the time.
