I am replacing my Carter P4601HP that is rear mounted and which just failed in less than 12 months (open winding). I just bought a Holley Blue for $99 at Autozone. I wanted something for the future that is both rebuildable and readily replaceable.

This pump is a 110 gph and 14 psi. Says it is "preset at 14 psi" however, it comes with a regulator and the directions say the regulator is required.

Do I need this regulator? or is it mainly for clamping to pressures below 14?

Robert,

Are you using this as a pusher pump or as the sole source of fuel for the VP44?

If you are using it as a pusher for the factory lift pump you will need to use the regulator and have it set around 6lbs.

If you have done away with the factory Lift Pump and are only using the Holley dont use the regulator.

Also keep an eye on the fuel pressure at WOT, the holley's flow great volume but with just one holley blue you may be able to bring the pressure down to near zero.

I use two holley blue pumps, the second is triggered by a pressure switch and helps boost the first one in times of need (7 PSi or less) or if the first dies, the second will take over so I am not stranded.

I put one in last month. Completely bypassed the factory pump. Mounted mine on the frame under the fuel tank. Did not use the regulator. 13-14 psi at idle ... 9-10 psi at WOT. After purchasing mine, I found a place in Waco TX that sells rebuilt Holleys for about $15. 00 less than what you and I paid. These rebuilt pumps have a lifetime warranty. If I can find the web site of the place in Waco I'll come back and post it.

SMcStay... did you find that website?

I'm running a blue also... mounted on the frame, by the tank, no regulater. works great.

I just put mine in last week works great but I was thinking that when the pump was shut off that the factory pump would pump just like it did before I installed the holly. Was I wrong with this. I'm going to try to put a Tee in the line so that I can run a diffrent fuel line around the pump so the stock pump will still run some psi if the holly should go out. Because of right now there is 0 psi with the holly shut off.

I never imagined so much interest ...

The web site is bookmarked on my home computer, when I return home I will definitely post it. I remember that I blundered onto it by searching either Google or Yahoo. If someone else finds it before I get back home ... please post here.

Thanks

Duckslayer, You will most likely want to plumb in a bypass made up from 2 Tees and a one way or a ball valve. The one way valve would be automatic, the ball valve will require you to open the valve if necessary, but it is less expensive. A Tee fitting might pump fuel back around in a circular pattern when the secondary pump is running.

the black pumps are the lifetime warranteed pumps they flow more than the blue pump that has only a 30 day warrantee.

the blue are $59 and the black are $79. that is what I paid 'bout 4 months ago.

I do not have the link any more, but here is the number 254-744-3830

The blue cost me $99 at Autozone. But the good news is I can get them at lot of places in a few minutes, versus the carter 4601 at SummitRacing.com taking up to a week.

The holley does not flow near the volume the Carter did.

I get 11psi tops out of it, and it dips to 8psi under part throttle accelleration.

The holley is much quieter than my carter was in same location, and does not pulse as much and delivers fuel smoother.

I need more volume as this 110gph pump is really a 70gph pump depending upon how it is quoted in the holley documentation you get after you buy it.

I removed the stock LP and mounted a Holley Blue on the frame in front of the tank. I have 142,000 and starts and runs like it is new. I have not checked the FP or have a qauge so I cannot say. I was goin to purchase an extra for that day that i dread when on the road somwhere. I was going to go with the Carter which is rated for more flow but who knows perhaps just stick with the Holley.

Ive got a blue on mine and still have the lift pump inline. Should I take the LP out of the question or just bypass the blue for now? Im seeing around 25psi after the LP  I didnt put the regulator in but I still have it around the parts pile somewhere

Mine is in the same way. I dont have a fp gauge yet but my local diesel guy swears buy the setup we have and says hes got customers over 100,000 with it I wouldnt sweat it. E

Ok you got my interest up, I have a Holley blue pump sittin in the garage (spare for the hot rod) I havent looked into it real hard but the few times i've been under my 99 i dont see alot of fuel lines... . what is needed and where do ya tap into the factory lines to put one of these aftermarket pumps on, and do you need to bypass the lift pump? Or just adding the other pump as a pusher pump? Thanks Russ
