I know there is a 5/8" nut and hex head stud on top of the steering box that can be adjusted but which way is to tighten up the steering?

I gave it a 1/4 turn and then retightened the nut.

How does that sound?

(I figured it would be a good time to do this since the whole front end of the truck is off)

Maybe good, maybe not.

The box needs to be centered as if you are traveling straight, adjust till you have no free play between the input shaft and pitman shaft.

Too tight and it will bind in the center causing you to over correct all the time while driving. Too loose- the input shaft rotates with no resulting movement on the pitman shaft.
