Below is a link I stole off the link on the grille gard thread below. How many 4 door first gen trucks were built? This is the first one I have seen, I rarly see an extended cab first gen in NE MO. That is one cool looking truck. Oo.

I think Dodge officially quit the crew cab line in 1985, though you run into a first Gen now and then that has either been stretched/ built by a conversion company, or converted a gasser to a CTD, and put a newer grille on to accomodate the intercooler.

You can have one for less than the interest on paying off a new truck. You WILL have to build it yourself. Go to the conversion forum and read the thread that SamsRams started, you just might get converted yourself. Real doors, real leg room, in a great truck. The Cummins/crew conversionis one of the easiest to do since all the parts required are available in a donor truck.

That truck is a convert. It's owned by a good friend of mine. It started out as a 93 extended cab CTD. He took the cab off an 85, stretched his frame 16" and that was that. Apparently the cab fits no problem, there were however mods to the fire wall.

Here's a picture of mine. The previous owner built it by sticking the drivetrain out of a wrecked '92 into the '84 frame.

Hey Don, is that the one that was for sale in the classifieds here out of Texas? I wanted to buy that one :{

J/K... I ended up with these two crew and donor and will be doing the conversion myself.

Anyway, truck looks nice, hope your enjoying it Oo.

BTW: My name is Don also, funny stuff :D

I'll second that, that white truck looks nice.

I love the truck I bought, but I'll share the bad news so you don't feel like you missed out.

On my first test drive in Texas, the fuel tank split open and started leaking. We worked 'til about midnight switching the tanks before heading home, and I still don't have a functioning fuel gage.

The Getrag refused to go into 3rd gear several times on the way home. I spent about $1400 and 5 days labor swapping in a NV4500. The NV4500 doesn't shift very smooth either. I'm wondering if the guy sold me a bad trans.

It left me stranded one night I think due to a fuel shutoff solenoid.

I got weaterhstripping for Christmas, so the wind should stop howling through the cab very soon. I'm also going to have to take the heater apart, because it is darn right cold in that truck.

The battery conked out Sunday. I had to roll start it to get home.

Thanks for the compliments on the crew. It's not exactly perfect either. Get close enough to look at any of the body panels and you'll find them full of small dents/dings/waves :rolleyes: many of the gaps between body panels are off as well. Definitely a 50-footer. Also, the carpet got wet just at the front of the drivers door area after the first rain, and it hasn't dried out yet :eek: . Seems to be in the area of cowl cracks?? or possibly the weatherstrip is bad?? I'm thinking it may not be drying out because I haven't driven it much and it sits all closed up with no air circulation.

Don, Sorry to hear about the problems with your crew. I promise I never wished anything bad to happen. :D Hope you get it worked out and going good soon. There isn't much on my donor that I'm not using or isn't in pretty bad shape, but if there are any small parts that you need let me know. I'm still looking at several long weekends of work to get my swap done :confused: at least your driving yours.
