How much can I tow?

Around here DOT will make you unhook so they can see the rating on your ball/hitch. If you're in an area where DOT is picky, make sure your 2" hitch and ball are rated up to 14K also. My dad sells trailers/hitches and he has a company make the hitches (plug in part only) for him. Cushioned and rated to 14K. Very hard to find item. OK enough sales pitch. If you need one PM me.

Well guess to add my 2cents. At work one of my coworkers is fixing to retire in about 7 months and going RV'ing full time around the country. He has looked at various sites where to go and things to avoid. One horror story went like this:

This couple was traveling through the mountains and lost control of there 5th wheel trailer and crossed over the center divide and had a head on collision with car. The passenger of the car was killed and DOT reported the RV was overweight (not sure tires or GCVW). His insurance company dropped him on the spot and lost a 1. 2 million dollar lawsuit. Now he sold everything his wife left him and to make it worse he is facing a involentary manslaughter charge that may stick and serve jail time.

Now I admit this was off the internet but sounds like my bad luck. I want to be totally legal when I tow, no questions asked.

Yup, my buddy called his insurance company when he was looking to tow a 5th wheel with his F-250. They told him he would not be covered if he had an accident when overloaded.
