Hey guys, I was wondering how much power the motor mounts can handle before any issues arrise. When I look at the mounts, and compare them to the 2nd gen mounts, they seem small. Any thoughts? Anyone using 400+ horse for a while now without any issues? Will the mounts hold up to 600 + while towing? Thanks,

Robert

It's MHO that the 4WD trucks have the issue simply due to the twisting of the frame when used off road. The 4X$ trucks... ... er... . I mean the 4X4 ;) trucks seem to take one heck of a lot of abuse and don't see the black top roads like the 2X pulling horse trailers from town to town.

CB Parker broke his engine mounts and it wasn't from all that power his engine was making. He drove that thing on these "cow trails" where Deer wouldn't walk. I think he even broke off his PS gear box. That isn't normal... ... ...

You can run 600 HP with no problems. The 1000+ ft/lbs of TQ will definitely have an impact IF you tie to something hard and fast and stick your foot in the oil pan. :-laf

Too much twist from the TQ will tear the mounts up even with stock power. That usually happens on a 4x4 as they can get better traction. You could chain the motor in so it couldn't rotate to far. That would save motor mounts and break the trans to tcase adapter. :)

HTML:
That being the case I will avoid the cow trails

That means a visit to "smokehouse diesel" is out. :-laf :-laf

I'll bet they will hold very high horse and torque as long as its applied smoothly... ... ei, no clutch drops with the trailer attatched... ... . Even at my lowly hp rating my motor mounts have taken lots of abuse. I actually have more problems with my t/case mounts staying tight.

If you were to put a chain around the mount, to limit the amount the motor can travel upwards, that would help. Every first gen I've seen has the interlocking motor mounts, that if torqued hard enough, the metal tabs keep the rubber from tearing. Thats old school Mopar design right there.

What if you were to chain the motor down the way we used to do on the old 340's and 440's? For those who don't remember that, there was a chain to the front drivers side of the frame, attached with no play to the upper drivers side corner of the block. Would something like this help, or do you need that play?

Also, are the second gen motor mounts stronger and better for high horsepower and or abuse? For example, lets use a 1st gen abuse scale. Would CB Parker still be able to break those? ;) Thanks,

Robert

I haven’t had any problems with the motor mounts just the bolts. I have sheered them off twice. This was before I broke 600hp. Like in the 400hp range.

Did you upgrade the hardware? Do you think they were overtightened, then sheared?(stressed by overtightening)

I would guess that some grade 8, (10. 9 as they are metric) hardware would be a good choice.

OK. Now I am lost. Which bolts did you shear? I was thinking you broke the bolt of the rubber mount.

I put some bolts in that I had laying around, but then they broke too. So I got some grade 8 bolts and that has seamed to cure my little problem.

I was thinking Stomp had broken the long thin bolts that are horizantial, I think there are two or three on each side. Maybe I'm wrong?

Those were the ones. There are two of them on each side. :D

Hey guys if your looking for better mounts, I have got them. We designed them when we started breaking them in our race truck (desert race truck) The stock mounts will not hold jumping the truck five feet in the air for very long. Our Built For Baja mounts will fit in the oem mounting location without any modification to frame or engine bracket. Although we designed them for the off road they are really great for maximizing torque in a drag or sled application and your gonna need a whole lot more torque to break them.

The mounts are made from from 4130 chrommoly, Tig welded, and Heat Treated. The bushings are replaceable as well.

If interested, send me a PM.

Just a thought, does that comment cover burnouts? ;)
