We are looking at heading South from Home Stopping in Colorado for some " Legal Trip Enhancer " Now being sold there legally, guaranteed to make anything more tolerable. :-laf

I have to make sure to roll a couple of "Fat Ones" for this part of the trip :D

I'm sure that we will survive, it can't possibly be any worse than South Central LA!!

Wanna bet?!

At least South Central LA has good weather!

Good Weather????? it was ALWAYS Dark when I went to drop fuel there

Same thing I saw back in West Memphis, TN!! I was on lunch break somewhere around 2 am at a burger joint with bank glass and a teller drawer lol!! IIRC, it wasn't too far from the Williams refinery.

I wanted to visit NYC too but I have this feeling that I'm too slow for their fast-paced world.

I've been thinking a lot about this upcoming trip that the wife and I are not far from starting. We lived in So. Calif and I'm sure that SOMEBODY!! (THERE ALWAYS IS ON TDR) is going to argue with this, but of all the places that I've been, working and on vacation. I don't believe that anyplace can compare to So. Calif for a fast- pace place.

Never have I have I given this much thought about going someplace. We both come from a small town that has had an influence on us, me from North Platte NB, her from Seeley Lake MT. Living in So Calif also left an influence on us, although not the same as where we now call HOME. Bigger Cities are all of a sudden a Strange & Hostile environment, it seems that EVERYTIME we go back to either So Calif or even one of the larger cities here in MT somebody decides that they want to take advantage of us or someone with us. Being One of, if Not THE BIGGEST AXX HOLE on the planet, I just cant let that happen and usually end up doing something that really doesn't need to happen, if WE BOTH would have just thought about what we were doing.

We WILL GO to NYC but I hope that we can take a small piece of our small town culture with us as a peace offering.

SO I DON'T HAVE TO BREAK SOMEBODYS FRIGGING ARM IN 3 OR 4 PIECES IN ORDER TO ENJOY THE VISIT

BIG

BIG, I don't think you'll have a problem, like any city bigger than 5 traffic lights, you'll have good and bad. Just stay in the good which is pretty easy. You'll be fine. I know folks that have done the California experience, even one dude who embarked on a long term relationship out there. The feedback I got from there is it's a laid back place- LA.
IM interested in your post visit report.

I live on Long Island, and at times have to go in for business. I HATE NYC.
I loved growing up on the Island, but no long like living here. Wish to move to a free state. Just not in the cards right now.

Never mind firearms..
Knifes, don't carry one, if they see a leatherman clipped to your pocket (knife on the inside, clip outside showing), it will get confiscated and if they don't like you, you could get arrested.
Anything that remotely possible that could be open easily, if it doesn't have locked closed blade, they will consider a gravity assist knife.. it's insane what the kangaroo courts are putting people in jail for in NYC. Do some research online about knifes and NYC, and it's documented online.. even stuff people have bought in the city itself - they've gone to jail for. It's a numbers came, so they can claim they are making the arrests and getting the convictions.

If you are going to drive into NYC, research where your going , find parking garages with all day discounts, get in there before 6AM, park, and make sure your wearing great walking shoes.
You can see most of mid town / time Sq in one day if your not staying for a show.

If you want to see down town by the new tower, do it a 2nd day. From what I understand you need an appointment / tickets in advanced to get in, IIRC.

Others I've known have stayed close in NJ (even less self defense friendly), and take a bus service in and out.

BK, ICYMI, stop n frisk is done. If they can't see it, they won't do anything. They know tourism keeps it going and they know who the tourists are. BIG please don't wear a I❤️NY anything till you get home.
Great place to experience. Folks who know me know my plans for vacating at the proper time.

Wayne its going to be awhile before we get to NYC. We are heading south to Zion, Bryce, Arches National Parks in UT, then down to Carlsbad Caverns National Park in NM. Then East to several spots along the way to Key West FL and out of the Keys to Blue Water Key RV park for a longer while before heading up the coast with several stops before we get to NYC.

PS: I don't buy Tee Shirts that say in no uncertain terms IM A TOURIST!!!!

I know the S&F is done, but if they see a case or the clip as I mentioned in my post, they will stop you and take it.
Also they look for "printing".
A case, clip or printing gives them probable cause. It's their way around random S&F.

S&F was done under profiling, hence why it's "gone" , but it hasn't stopped their efforts for the dangerous weapons arrest and convictions.

Edit, while I knew it wasn't totally gone, it's actually not gone at all... it still called S&F , just has new rules..

Just wondering the Pro's & Con's of different days of the week to look around?

If any day were special, I'd say Thursday is a very heavy traffic day. Other than that it's non stop. Of course certain attractions have schedules, but other than the wee hours, the place is buzzing. When I use to breeze through the Brooklyn bridge and across downtown at 0445, I felt I pretty much had it to myself (and the terminix trucks). Come back 2 hours later and it's a different place!

The Keys are on my bucket list. I don't know the last time you've been on I95, but to me it's such a boring road. Given the choice I'll take I81 any day.

My brother has done the Keys a few times and loves them, I would love to go....

I've started typing a response about four times and had to abandon it because it was a rant against New Yawkahs, with all due respect to the good people on this forum. I'll simply say I'd skip it and go a bit north to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. We went there because there is a PT museum there, and my Dad's older brother was a MoMM3 on PT337. I got to go below deck on the PT, as I am considered "crew kin". To say it was a moving experience would not begin to describe it. The Battleship Massachusetts is there, along with a Destroyer, a Sub, an LST, etc., etc. It was very, very interesting. Otherwise, I'd head towards Gettysburg, again something to behold.

Ive been to battleship cove. It is very cool. I especially liked seeing the pt boats. If I remember, the sub is one that used to be in lake union in seattle decades and decades ago. I envy you for getting to go aboard and below in the pt.
