Should also visit www.bhphotovideo.com. This is an experience in its own.

So I was in Chelsea earlier today, and I'm impressed with all the building going on. You wouldn't think there's any kind of economic slump at all. I went up on the high line, such was a prewar freight rail line converted into a parkspace.

I also grabbed a chicken kebab from a cart on 23st. After I regrouped with my Son, we browsed some art galleries that are plentiful in the area.
On the day you see the Intrepid, I reccomend hitting this area as well.

We are making plans for this summers vacation. Penny has always wanted to see NYC, what's the safest way?

Take the trains into the city and use the subway? or would that be like hanging a sign around our necks that reads " Kick My AXX Please"

I drove in the City ONE TIME back in the Mid 70's I swore that if I ever got out in one piece that I wouldn't ever do that again. Taxi Cabs seem a bit iffy, Habibe the Cab driver might not like the looks of me that day.

And articles like this appear in the news. If this is the way that NYC seems to think that a Little Groping is NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL then I don't think that Gail needs to take us there. He would be in jail pretty XXXX fast if that LITTLE GROPING took place.

But in Napolitano's view, Fields is complaining for no good reason. After all, unwarranted touching happens all the time on New York City's subway, and everyone's fine.

Except it's not fine. The Metropolitan Transit Authority, which oversees much of New York City's massive transit system, has seen a considerable spike in reports of sexual abuse on its trains and buses. In fact, by the end of 2015, the system saw a nearly 33% jump in cases, according to the New York Daily News. Overall, subway sex crimes went from 620 reported cases in 2014 to 738 cases in 2015. Law enforcement attributes the jump in reported cases to heightened awareness.

But clearly that heightened awareness hasn't led to much empathy from people like Napolitano.

Ms. Penny;
I began dropping hints in post 19. I think if you do it wisely and stick to the commuter routes, and the right locations, you won't have a problem. If you look at when and where these things happen, it will be self explanatory.

There are things to see and do in Manhattan that I'd hate to see you miss but I can understand the reservation!

Sorry for not getting back to this post, We've been a little busy trying to stay dry.

Thanks for the Native American Museum things like that are pretty cool to visit if you have one that is one???? Hope she doesn't read to much into that she likes her knives.

All good advice for the commuter trains. I've been looking at NYC Delis several times this one has come up and have seen a TV show on it CARNEGIE DELI. I don't know how they can make any profit with the amount of meat on the sandwich's.

While on the topic of food in NYC, I can really help with that ;) Carnegie deli is like a few around that are a spectacle. One sanwich will feed 2-3 people. If you get to a play, have dinner here- http://www.carminesnyc.com - make no mistake, you can sample food from the entire world in midtown, but some of the best things NYC is known for, like pizza, are outside of manhattan believe it or not.
As you get closer and get serious about making plans- this is what you need- http://www.timeout.com/newyork
If you see something you want more info about, feel free to ping me! Theres stuff in here you want to know about, and some stuff you DONT want to know about.

Safe traveling!

I work in all of the LA areas on a regular basis, as said in the past posts, you wouldn't catch me in the same areas during late hours. I imagine NYC is the same, BUT no way would I want to visit NYC without a local resident guide, someone I know, but I don't know anyone, so that ends that. Wayne, are there private tours you can hire, that are reliable?

RV, I dont know of private guided tours in NYC similar to whats in Europe etc. but there are bus tours that bring you around. I think its best to do your homework before you come.

Big, in june of 2006 the wife and i travelled by truck and fifth wheel from calgary across canada and toured all the eastern provinces including Newfoundland and Labrador. Entered the USA in Maine then NH. VT. RI. MASS., then into CT. where we stayed at the Mohegan Sun casino at Uncasville. A beautiful casino nicely landscaped and an area off to one side where RVs and a couple of tour buses were parked. At the back side of the casino they have their own bus terminal. We inquired and come to learn that many buses run back and forth from Chinatown in NY city to the Mohegan Sun. The first morning we got up early to catch the first bus at about 630am. The tickets cost 10.oo each into the city. I tend to think from memory that it took around two hours, but by leaving that early we hit the morning rush traffic. So the bus stops in Chinatown. Our plan was to to tour the city by Gray Line Sightseeing, which we did. Gray Line covers all the places to see in the city and the buses arrive at these places about every 20 minutes. you can get on and off as often as you like. Now this is where we maybe could have done things different and better. To pick up Gray Line tickets we had asked a lady on the bus about how to get to Gray Lines office. She suggested the subway which we did. We had to change trains a couple of times which became a little hectic because the lady who gave us directions pronounced the name of a particular train had a accent we were not used to. The tour tickets were 45.00 each, but were good for 48 hours, so were good for 2 days. We asked the bus driver about getting back to Chinatown by Gray Line and he said we could. They give you a route map so we planed it to get to Chinatown about 5.00 or 5.30. We only had to walk maybe 2 or 3 blocks to the bus, $10.00 for ticket back to our trailer at the Mohegan Sun and our own bed. The ticket we purchased for the return trip to the Casino had a stub attached which we used to go to New York the following day. The next morning we took a later bus about 7.30 or 8.00 which avoided a lot of the morning traffic and arrived just about as early as the day before. A lot of Gray Lines buses are double deckers so a seat on the upper deck is better. Just DO NOT stand up on the upper deck because the traffic lights would hit you about chest high. It turned out to be a very inexpensive way to see New York. It worked for us. Have a good trip. ED

I have figured a way to see NYC and be SOMEWHAT secure. I had feelers out for a Service buddy for some time, he returned my call and we've been invited to stay at his place just outside of Allentown PA. He goes to NYC for weeks at a time for work, then comes home for a week off and then back to work again in NYC. To beat the commute we've decided to stay at a Hotel in NYC, of course the cost might be a little high but with the amount of time in a commute BOTH WAYS what's the difference.

He said that the city really isn't that bad a place, like anywhere else you have to watch where your at and the time that your there, but that's just about any large city in the WORLD.

So its a Two-fer I get to see a guy that was in the hole next to me that covered my XXX more than once, and at the same time get to see NYC.

I'm from upstate ny, all family and vacationing done in Long Island outside queens. Parking in ny city can be from 80-120 a day. I'd suggest staying outside the city at a camp and training in, or parking motor home outside city, drive in to a hote and stay if they offer free parking for guests. Stay out of shady parts and you'll be fine.

If you have time while in the Allentown(AHH-len-TAHN)area, the Mack Truck museum is by Queen City Airport. I don't know if they give tours at the Macungie plant.

They do give tours at the "Heritage center" guided by a Mack retiree. I was there recently, and might be going back for training.

Yes, last time I was visiting family I tried to get to the Heritage Center with my BIL and nephew, but the timing just didn't work out. I'd also love to go through Macungie, but don't know if they do tours. My BIL knows several people who work at Macungie, so I might be able to get hooked up.

That would be a great hook up. Every June at the ATCA truck show convention at the Macungie park, Mack hosts an open house with shuttles back n forth from plant to park, which is almost walking distance. I was lucky to go last year.
