A guy has witnessed accident

Bored?

With technology today, wouldn't you think that something can be done to stop or at least weaken a hurricane, tropical storm??

Flying thru the disturbance, couldn't something be dropped out of a plane that would counter the storm? Maybe an explosion of some type??

I know, sounds stupid, but ya never know...

They are already doing it!! Didn't you hear? Bush couldn't kill all the black people in New Orleans with Katrina, so he sent Rita to finish them off in Houston!! (I just hope they don't come to my nieghborhood!)

Then you better be a good person as well as a white person!! :D

Why not drop one or two 20 megaton nukes right into the eye of the storm. It probably will disrupt the swirling winds enought to break up the storm.

Just make sure your out of town when the normal rain clouds come rolling onshore and drop about 10 inches of rain.

The weatherman on Houston's Channel 2 News addressed this question tonight. According to him, these storms are just too big to affect that way, even with a nuke. He also stated that the amount of energy in a storm like Rita, if it could be harnessed, could supply the power needs of the entire country for over 24 hours!

I'll say that if they dropped a nuke in the middle of it, all the scantily clad women on the Florida coast would be in trouble... :-laf

Didn't they have a bomb that they dropped in Afghanistan that was a non-nuke, air burst, was to be the most powerful conventional bomb made ?

Maybe try it and see what happens, whats to loose ?

Hmmm. If hurricanes get strength from heat (warm water), then dumping a lot of heat (big bomb or even nuke) into the middle might not be a good idea.

I'm thinking we could get Congress to get on the East side and talk against the wind, naw, that's just more hot air, could make it worse. :D

I suspect that attempting to change a CAT 5 hurricane with a nuke is about like trying to drop of temperature of the Gulf of Mexico by throwing a bag of ice cubes in it. Consider that the destruction of a nuke is a couple of square miles and the damage from Katrina was 150 miles wide by who knows how long. As mentioned before, a nuke might just be adding fuel to the fire, so to speak.

I remember reading somewhere where a big Lake Superior November style storm would release energy at a rate of 4 to 6 atom bombs a second (Hiroshima size I assume) over a given area of shoreline.

That I dont doubt one bit..... And the icecube thing into the gulf is a very good description of what would happen with just a nuke. Even with todays Tridents. Biggest result would be a boatload and a half of radioactive rain.

Daisy cutter would be like a gnat to a horse on Rita...

I wasn't suggesting a Daisy Cutter, Get R Done couldn't remember the name of the bomb. I'm afraid you just can't mess with Mother Nature, she's a mean Muther sometimes.
