That my baby my wife and I work on It all the time. The fram Is as clean as the outside. I am still adding lights wait till I am done. My wife says I am a dam Redneck with all those lights. She went to our daughters for a week and wait till she see It now. She mights be looking for pallbearers, only need 2 because a garbage can only has 2 handles on It. Anyway I am having fun.

You didn't exactly mention what ATS configuration you were purchasing but make sure you get the torque converter and the commander module if you buy the ATS transmission. The commander module allows the transmission to look up in at least third and provides some engine braking capability.

For what its worth, my daughter recently went through this same delelma. Problem is that if your original transmission is trashed, it cost almost as much for a Dodge replacement as the ATS and ATS has a much better warrenty. On top of that, we had ATS do some other work on the truck and they have been extremely good to work with and totally stand behind their products/work.

Just a thought, if your transmission isn't totaled and you know a transmission shop you trust, you might want to go with just a ATS torque converter and a valve body during a rebuild. From what I understand that may be enough to address the majority of the transmission problems if done in conjunction with a transmission temp guage.

Stock 47RE trannys already lock-up the TC in 3rd.

Nice looking rig, glad you posted the pic. I was gonna ask what kind it was when you mentioned Cummins powered motorhome. As far as the prices I also feel you pain. The trans in my '98 is starting to act up with 170K on it and $5500 would exceed what I currently have in the truck, total.

That is one advantage of my ClassA motorhome. Has a front mounted CTD with a Allison 4sp auto behind it. Having a OD and lockup converter would be nice but at least it is a cheap reliable unit, a factory reman is only $1050 exchange.

I have made up my mind what I am going to do

The trans I my 95 Dodge Is In good cond but to pull a car trailer I am afraid to do that with a stock trans. I am going to change the valve body and tourque conv. plus a deep dosh pan with a temp gauge which the pan has a hole for It. :confused:

I would put the sender in the hot line that goes the the heat exchanger under the turbo. You will see the hottest temps there. Don't know that the deep pan is really necessary. My new transmission runs cooler than the stock one. Even then, the temps never got that hot, unless backing up, or towing in 2nd gear (unlocked TC clutch).

I've removed a few posts in this thread concerning other transmission companies. Since the original post was directed at purchasing an ATS transmission, discussions of other transmission brands is not allowed.

For those who may not have read the transmission thread guidelines, please refer to the link below.

Gee its nice to see that protectionism and racketeering are alive and well at TDR. No one else can post their experiences on who they used for a replacement transmission unless it cam from ATS. What kind of crap is this?

Well sir you have just about guaranteed that I wont buy anything from ATS.

Have a nice day... ... ..... :-{}

Only ATS can be talked about because that is what the originator specified. If you want to know about any of the other transmissions, start another thread and specify the companies by name... . no one is stopping you.

I did get my transmission rebuilt and am happy. I think all 4 top rebuilders could have done the job to suite me. Now cost would be different because of operating cost Is different In different areas. Also cost was a factor for me and that was the reason why I went where I did. Lets not fight about who's who's does the job. I do listen to what you fellows have to say. I wast to thank you for all your help getting my junker bullet proof I hope. We will see down the road.
