I put in 38. 4gl's at $2. 20 yesterday on the way to work, cost me $84. 45. The good thing? On the way home the same station had bumped up the price to $2. 40 and 9/10's  :--) . Would have cost me $7 more. :{ And what the F is up with the 9/10's  Do the gas company's really think we just look at the bigger numbers of the price and don't count in the stupid nine tenths until we pay for it?

It's been that way for as long as I can remember, and I can remember paying 17. 9 cents a gallon for premium gasoline.

wow. I remember 19. 9 for regular!

It was back when I was a teenager and yes, we had cars back then. There was a little independent self-service station (rare back then) and a Gibson's Discount store about 1/2 a block apart. They always had a price war going on.

In the Oops! category: 2 or 3 years ago, work sent me to Little Rock. My rental car was running on fumes so I pulled into the local stop 'n rob for gas. Someone had set the pump wrong. Instead of $1. 29 a gallon, my credit card was only charged 12. 9 cents a gallon.

Bet that someone got reamed good for that one!

Pawpaw, I too remember 17. 9 cents per gallon in Waskom, Tex. We'd drive over from Shreveport sometimes just for the fun of it. I also remember buying cigarettes for a quarter and getting a couple of pennies back inside the celephane wrapper. Yep, Cokes were a nickel back then and so were Hershey bars. In fact, that was my allowance when I was in grade school - one nickel every Monday. I spent it on the Hershey bar.

Now you guy's are talking of my good old days! Worked at a Phillips station and gas was selling for 19. 9/gallon! ;)

Guess I am just a young'en, I can only remember back to . 37 cuz thats what it took to fill the 1 gal tank on my Honda SL70

You're right, let's bring it back. I LOVED driving my turbo-diesel because it drowned out the sound of the snarly sound of those Trail 70s.

Yes and I guess I'm the one that started the drift. Guess that means I get to bring it back.

I really need to order and install the vent kit, but I have one question... Is it necessary to put the truck up on jackstands or would ramps under the back tires be sufficient?

Bob

To get the tank out, it helps to jack up the truck a little. It's also easier with the wheel well liner removed. To get the tank back in, one needs to use the jack to get it back into position so push the tank back under the truck inside of the frame rail and then wrestle the jack under it. I made my own vent kit with an aluminum tee at work, seven bucks worth of Cenex West plant tank fittings (bulkhead and 3/4" 90 deg elbow) and 1 1/2 feet of 3/4" diesel fuel/oil hose. It took 4 hours 'cause it was a beotch to get the elec connector off and getting both ears of the fuel lines squeezed correctly. On a short box tank, it added about 1 1/2 to 2 gallons since the filler is already on the high part of the tank. It's kinda nice to be able to go 100 miles before the needle moves to the F on the gauge. :D

My long bed had the rear end up on jacks. There was no need to remove the ww liner. Took an hour and a half start to finish, but that was because there wasn't a hole saw around in the right size. Directions could use a little cleaning up, but what the hey - they were written by a pilot (smile). He's used to writing clearances and leaving the mechanical stuff to A & Ps.

Jeremiah,

Actually, I don't even do that any more. I have an "assistant" to do that for me now. :-laf

I've significantly cleaned up the directions since you got your kit. I think I'm officially on the 5th or 6th version. They keep getting clearer and easier especially with the pics in my reader's rigs to go along with them. If anyone has the kit and wants updated instructions, e-mail me and I'll e-mail you an updated set. I can't send a file like this via PM.

You have an assistant write clearances for you? What's the world of aviation coming to! OK, OK, you have a co-pilot do it. I used to own a Bonanza that I rented out to high-time instrument rated pilots. An AF officer rented it and wrote a clearance on the leather upholstery. What can you say?

Glad you updated. The mechanic who read the instructions I got said several times they weren't quite clear in a couple of places. He got the job done though!

I recommended the kit to a friend, Dean Upson, who I understand bought one from you. He has other friends, so you'll probably be hearing from them too. But that's word of mouth. You still need to advertise.

I took Jeremiah's advice and got in touch with Spooled-up last night and I sent for my kit today.

I always fill right to the top and am looking forward to not spending so much time at the pump. Unfortunetely, it looks like we all will be spending more $$$ there instead.

Dean

Klenger,

I just counted up how many kits I've sold. Right now it's at 82 kits. I've got a lot of feedback on the instructions and differences between the short and long bed trucks, and the instructions have evolved and are pretty clear now. Thanks to all those guys that let me know what needed to be changed and improved.

My biggest recommendation is to get rid of the o-ring if you can. It's not used properly. O-rings need to be entrapped. It squeezes out when you tighten. I have talked to another guy who had the same happen and read of another on here that decide to simply glue it.

Yo Hoot, good idea. I scabbed my kit together, nothing against Spooled-up's kit, I just like doing things like this myself, and had the same problem with the O-ring. My idea is to find a rubber encapsulated washer, like the oil drain plug gasket's. When I was looking at them I was not able to find one large enough but then I also did not look very hard figuring that the O-ring might work and if it squeezed out then I would start looking harder.
