Exhaust brake on a VW TDI

I was heading to work the other morning and thought I would stop at the local truck stop for my morning cup of coffee. As I was coming upon the entrance I noticed that traffic was backed up rather bad. I took the first entrance in and figured I would slip out the rear entrance. When I started into the parking lot I found out what was wrong. There was a semi that had gotten his trailer stuck in a snow pile while trying to leave. At that point I saw the funniest thing. There was an Explorer hooked to it trying to pull him back into the parking lot. He was puttini a hurtin on it. The auto hubs were clacking and he was backing up and slamming the chain trying to move him.

At that point I pulled down and offered to help pull. As I got out of the truck to hook thew chain to mine, I thouhgt I had made a serious mistake. There was people watching everywhere. I was going to be embarrassed if I couldn't do it. I put the truck in 4 low and pulled him back with out any problem. I was so proud of my lil truck. :D Granted the truck driver was trying also. He was just stuck on ice and couldn't get it to move. I just wish I would have gotten some pics. :D

Four low on these trucks is incredible. I once offered to pull out a 12k forklift that was stuck in deep gravel. It was real workout especially since the dimwit on the fork lift had the emergency brake on. The chain was permanently stretched so tight that you could lean it against a wall when he finally got out.
