I have had this problem for 2 years now. It started out once in a while truck would start to miss and lose power I would shut truck off, restart and problem gone. Now when I start it has knock in the pump that comes and goes, when it dies after a minute or so I hear what sounds like a solenoid releasing in the pump. Also is fuel solenoid to engage when key is turned on? Also when this knocking problem is happening engine wants to run away if you try to give more fuel.

Thanks

Pump noise

I had the same problem right after i bought my 96 ram ctd, mine had a sticky plunger/barrel assy inside of the pump. The truck would start to run crappy and if you shut it off and start it again it would be fine for a while then it would start all over then it would try to die on me and when i would give some fuel to keep it running it would rev as high as the pump would let it. Mine problem was caused by the fueling was increased enough that it was putting to much strain on the pump when i had the stock injectors, so i upgraded to 370 marine injectors after pump was fixed. P. S. i see you are from Stratford and i am from Algona, nice to hear from another guy in Iowa for a change. Later!!!

I was pretty steamed when mine did that!

I've heard that is quite common in 95's. Mine did the same thing as yours with 61000 miles on it. I have a 95 also. My truck was bone stock then. Warenty took care of it.

Remember to change your fuel filter religously.

If you live in a climate that is quite moist. Drain the water frequently. Keeps corosion from doing anything damaging.

Stay away from #1 diesel as it tends to be dry as far as a lubericity stand point. Meaning the pump will wear out faster.

Injection pumps are an investment. Take good care of it. I have 195,000 miles on it now with a remanned pump. Been working ok.

RR94- I wouldn't have been all that far from you. I used to live just south of Dayton. Lived there from '88-'97.
