315 75R 16's Tire Question

Just to let all know. Bought new tires, Michelin LTX MS 215-85-R16 Load range E, 6 each for my 94 3500. Always had balance problems. Bought em at WalMart and purchased the "lifetime balance". Well they got tires mounted and found they did not have correct adapter for balance machine. They brought out some kind of wierd adjustable thing for mounting to balance machine which I had no faith in. Turns out I was right, more shake and shimmy than I had ever had. Complained and Manager said he would get correct adaptor to balance my tires. OK. About a month later they had adaptor and I had the tires rebalanced. Guy balancing tires said " man they were really out of balance (no kidding i say), should be great now. Get on the road and same deal Bad Balance - or No balance. Weights varied from 2oz. - to 6oz. per tire. Don't know squat about balancing tires , but my experience is any tire taking over 3. 5 - 4 oz. weight is just not going to ride smooth, or last long.

Having read many threads here about balance beads I decided to go for it. Bought form Innovative Balancing, ceramic beads, 4oz per tire as per their chart. Bought the filtered valve cores. Had no idea how much goop or slop WalMart used to lube the beads to mount tires. When I removed valve cores to deflate tires prior to installing beads 2 tires blew out some moisture. Used the little applicator bottle and poured in the beads. Not as bad putting beads in as some here have said but it is a little tedious.

Old Truck ain't never been so smooth. I will go to Wal Mart and try to get a refund on the "lifetime balance" ?????? Just thought some of you may want to know. I am satisfied with the beads.

Used these on my seriously flat spotted tires just so I could get one more winter out of them. Not perfect but they made it manageable. Much better than the weights were. I'll sure use thenm again!

I knew a guy who ran a tire shop and swears by the stuff.

But.....

Only problem is if you run off road and deflate and reinflate a lot, the moisture build up in the tire cause the stuff to clump together and not work any more.

He has seen the problem.

The stuff he sold was the Equal stuff.

The counteract and innovative balancing beads will not clump up like the equal does.

I put the Innovative Balancing beads in my Toyo M55s last fall when I bought them and have not regretted it.

The only thing I need to do is order a spare 4oz. packet in case I ever get a flat and the tire shop removes the tire for fixing. They'll dump them on the floor for sure.

Jay:

I was hesitant at first but after reviewing the positive comments here I am sold on giving the beads a try. I viewed the innovatve balancing site for info on the beads and found that I will need 10 ounces per tire for the tires I'll be going with soon (Toyo 35x12. 5x18). I couldn't find anything on price. Do you have a price per ounce figure?

Thanks

I have tried counteract balance beads on my 245 75 BFG All Terrain. But they still vibrated. Brought them back to the store where I bought the tires and they replaced two of the tires, took out the balance beads then balanced them with weights. They now stay balanced for about 2,000 miles then they need rebalanced. I know some of you swear by the beads but I was disapointed with them. I tried them for 1,000 miles before I gave up on them and the tires were new when I installed the beads. I am wondering if anyone has had results like mine.

Something doesn't sound right with the tires IMHO. Especially if they are only staying balanced for 2000 miles.

Perhpas it is your stock wheels. The OEM chome Dodge wheels have been know to be a little crappy. This seems like it could be more of the culprit IMHO since you are buying a quality, name brand tire.

Check these out also. By them once and keep them. A friend with Ford has them, he never could get rid of a vibration and these stopped it( just like they said it would). Plus he says his tire are lasting longer. Check out there video, its pretty cool.

They are not cheap  .

With the rising cost of tires, the price may not be so bad for those of us that put on mega miles a year. . Not only do you have to figure in the cost of tires, figure also the cost of mounting and balancing. I think that in two years they would pay for themselves for me. Thanx for the info. :)
